I sent this book back immediately after brousing through some articles and photos. Why? It was as biased to the left as the New York Times, its publisher. Obama is treated like a Mesiah while the caption under Palin’s photo was “Palin Resigned”. That is a fact but she also woke up the entire conservative world, sold the most non-fiction books in recent history, managed a $2B state budget and is building thousands of dollars delivering speeches and raising funds for conservative candidates. The Kennedy photo was captioned “The Lion in Winter” where it should have been captioned “The Chappaquiddick Chaser”. While I like to have a reference book at our cabin for the grandchildren to brouse through, I will not expose them to this biased view of facts and history. If you are middle or right of center in the political spectrum, don’t buy this book. If you are a right lefty liberal, you will like it.

As an Directory goes, this is a terrific source of information. It is well organized categorically and gives pertinent and copious amounts of information. An directory such as this is terrific for killing time in the passenger’s seat on a road trip, sitting in a comfortable chair just meandering through the pages, or for some information needed for a research project. It is a must have for all households IMO.
So, why the 2 stars as a replacement for of 5 stars? Buying this for the Kindle should not cost as much as a paperback version. Amazon doesn’t have to store it in a warehouse. They don’t have to ship it to me. They don’t have to have an employee handle the book for me. That alone takes care of at least half the costs linked with a book. It is very frustrating that publishers and/or Amazon are not giving a significant part of persons savings to us, they loyal customers. One of the many reasons to buy an ebook reader should be the savings that comes along with it in terms of material read. Sadly, that is not the case many times. I hope Amazon and the publishers can come to their senses on this issue (I want to judge it is more with the publishers than with Amazon, maybe my brand loyalty prejudice showing?).

I looked for Olympic Canoe and Kayak results…they are missing. The medal count is confusing. Is the team count one medal or the total of team members? How about a total of the Statemeyer books? How do Nancy Drew totals compare with additional such titles? Why isn’t the Wolf River-Fox River on the list of long rivers?
This tome should be in every HS student’s library…
