This is probably an okay book, but I’ll never know as I gave up by page 57.
What I want is a book that says – badda boom badda bing – here’s what you do, and this is what is going to take place once you do this.
I don’t want a lot of padding, and I especially don’t want a lot of dialogue with a hypothetical uncomplaining.
I guess Martha Beck has simply spoiled me for all additional life education books. She is witty, concise, and powerful, while this book is just okay — if you’re living in England in the 18th century and you have nothing to do but wade through a bloomin’ book!

I owned just about every self-help book on the market until I establish EBT. EBT has been the “missing link” I was looking for, and as it continues to evolve has been a source of fantastic joy, comfort and healing for me.
Even though I am part of the EBT community and a graduate of the Method, I still establish the book very helpful. EBT has permanently felt intuitively “right” for me, and now as I learn more about the neuroscience behind the method, I know why. The tools mimic the brain’s natural process of self-regulating so that I can return to my natural state of joy.
I feel so joyful right now thinking of all the positive ways the tools have helped me become resilient to the stresses in my life and helped me access the blessings of life, especially intimacy and spirituality. I feel so grateful for this latest book and the science and tools that are open. Thank you so much, Laurel!!

Laurel Mellin is a genius! I am a psychotherapist who is absolutely blown away by the EBT Method and so are my clients. I don’t know of any additional approach that teaches people how to manage their emotions, change debilitating thoughts and let go of unhealthy habits. Clients who have struggled with yo-yo dieting for years are learning skills that truly keep the weight off. Clients who have suffered from chronic anxiety and depression now experience feelings of well-being much of the time. Read Wired for Joy. This Method isn’t a quick fix but if you do the work, you will be rewarded with results that seem nearly miraculous.

Finally I can really not “need” to have extra food. Not from trying to stay on a diet, but by learning how to make a life that feels better than food. I really have establish the drive to overeat fade. I like this whole program.

Laurel Mellin entertains while teaching us how to manage our stress with simple to use, yet amazingly effective, tools that can be used in minutes. She adroitly combines decades of experience effective with children and adults at UCSF, with neuroscientific breakthroughs of the last decade to make this simple-to-learn method for stress reduction. Just about anyone can get something life-transforming from this book. And while a fun read, Mellin reminds us that living a full life brings stress. Loving brings loss. These skills are a must if you want to live your life to the fullest and cope optimally.
