While the leader does go into detail about copious topics and informs the reader about what is necessary to survive. What I reflect the books lacks is the detail necessary on all of the major topics. An example would be that he describes how to erect a leanto for shelter, but doesn’t go into detail on how to tie the structural members together. He just tells you that you need to tie them together. What if you don’t have a shoelace to use? What additional alternates are there? This book would be fantastic for a teenager who goes camping and may need to erect a fire, but it’s not enough for the serious camper.

While I liked the all-purpose layout of Mr. Davenport’s book, In all-purpose it looked like a tired rehash of the U.S. Air Force survival manual to me. To be sure Mr. Davenport added some personal bits of information related to his experience but all in all I don’t reflect that these added much to the information. It is a very workman like piece but I prefer the works by Thomas Elpel and the McPhearson’s as they carry the detail and skills of people who really do know the wilderness.
This is proably a excellent book for a name who has to choose a book with basic skills although the actual AF manual would be less expensive and more instructional.

I bought this book for research for the novel I am writing, in which the main character is forced to survive on her own in the wilderness. I got this book because I was searching for information that would make my tale believable.
well, as far as the information contained in the book, I reflect it’s pretty excellent. The problem is (and maybe I just didn’t read the description well enough, but I don’t reflect that was the problem) that I was looking for info on how to survive with small to no modern supplies. This guy’s info is all about how to survive with a bunch of modern stuff (what kind of backpack, what to pack in your survival kit, etc.), which is not what I needed. What if a name isn’t meaning to be out in the wilderness at all, but gets stranded? This book wouldn’t be any help for a name like that. Most of the info in the book is based on the assumption that you have reasonably a few modern supplies.
so while the info was excellent, this book was not what I needed, and ultimately not very helpful.
