Product Description
Many horse trainers, even persons who espouse the so-called natural horsemanship approach, take the position that horses who fail to obey a human’s request are doing so as much out of perversity as ignorance. That’s not Mark Rashid’s view. In his words, “If we know that horses can’t separate the way they feel from the way they act, then we can start to see that unwanted behavior isn’t terrible behavior at all. More times than not, it’s just the horse expressing the way he feels at that particular moment in time. . . .How we perceive that information dictates how we respond to it.”
Whole Heart, Whole Horse focuses on this thought, covering such subjects as gathering information from the horse, turning rider/teacher mistakes into positive experiences, developing realistic boundaries between you and your horse, understanding how and why horses relief energy from real or perceived traumas, and reaching a comfortable balance point between horse and rider. Rashid analyzes developing softness, consistency, dependability, trust, and peace of mind in both horses and humans, as well as how to become a leader whom your horse will willingly want to follow and work with.
Full of examples that extend beyond the training pen, Whole Heart, Whole Horse offers excellent sense and information that will make you a more astute, capable, and sensitive horseman and person.

Being a Mark Rashid fan I didn’t expect this book to be anything additional than brilliant and I wasn’t disapointed, once again the reader is drawn into the tales of Inscription experiences but what sets him apart from additional clinicians is his inate ability to prise lessons from a lifes experience with horses. many of the tales I can equate to in my own life but it took this book and others of inscription books to see what persons lessons were. if more people read this book there would be a lot more contented horses around the world.

This is the eighth book I have read, by Mark Rashid. As an veteran horse person (we have been breeding, raising, training, transporting, and rehabbing unwanted horses for nearly 2 decades) I have to say he is one of my favorite authors.
The book is insightful, masterful, emotional, and I particularly loved the parts in nearly every chapter where Rashid describes “a point NH program” and why he does not agree with certain aspects of it (join the club, Mark). He couldn’t write which one, but anyone who has studied “it” knows that is a Program that starts with a P and ends with your horse being rubber necked and disengaged behind. How to fix this?
Mark Russell has authored a fabulous book, also available on Amazon.com Lessons in Lightness: The Art of Educating the Horse. We have Mark Russell here at our Florida facility 6 – 7 times a year.
OK, enough said about Mark Russell. This is supposed to be about Mark Rashid! Novice horsemen to advanced will like this book! People who don’t even own a horse would delight in it.
