How can we go on living when things fall apart—when we are overcome by pain, dread, and anxiety? Pema Chödrön’s answer to that question contains some spectacularly excellent news: there is a fundamental happiness readily available to each one of us, no matter how hard things seem to be. To find it, according to traditional Buddhist teaching, we must learn to stop running from suffering and as a replacement for really learn to approach it—fearlessly, compassionately, and with curiosity. This radical practice enables us to use all situations, even very painful ones, as means for learning the truth and like that are utterly indestructible.

Much like Zen, Pema Chodron’s interpretation of Tibetan Buddhism takes the form of a nontheistic spiritualism. In When Things Fall Apart this head of a Tibetan monastery in Canada outlines some significant and deceptively profound terms of Tibetan Buddhism that are germane to modern issues. The key to all of these terms is long-suffering that in the final analysis, life is groundless. By letting go, we free ourselves to face dread and obstacles and offer ourselves unflinchingly to others. The graceful, chatty tone of Chodron’s writing gives the impression of sitting on a pillow across from her, listening to her everyday examples of Buddhist wisdom.

I reviewed this book last year and gave it five stars. But now I give it 0 stars because my life since then has been a hopeless living. I followed Pema’s advice, but my question is what is the purpose in the lifestyle she is recommending. There is no goal. You live your life like a machine lacking any hope.
This book is the highest form of DECEPTION I have ever seen. Pema might be doing this knowingly or unknowingly. I do not know her intentions. But this book should be rephrased as hopeless living.
Now I have hope and a goal in life. If people are thinking how. I establish Christ who many people including me did not know what he is or who he is.
Christ was God himself who manifested in the form of flesh so as to show us the way of life and how we can lead a victorious life (victory over mind and evil) by walking in God’s ability, not human abilities. Because for generations humans have been trying to perfect their life by their own abilities and failed. No one could be consistent. Now I assure you that you will find consistency when you hold the hands of Christ.

It is an indication that something is incorrect if you have to go read another book or two on history and philosophy of Buddhism in order to know the esoteric dogma she is talking about.
Now to place all this in simple terms the jest of the book seams to be:
We are all going to die and we should reflect about it all the time.
There is no hope and we should not even try
All is suffering and we should not try to do anything about it
All is pain and we should try to find more pain.
We do not have a soul and if you reflect you do you are deluded
These are not excellent messages for a name who is really in a state of depression or flux
I can not see what anyone gets out of this book
Her point if there is one is nearly un-understandable through all the esoteric drivel

It’s fantastic if you’re a first time reader of self care books. Otherwise it drags and it’s less appealing than expected. Although I’ve been trying to find it’s saving grace I don’t care for the writing style or the authors referrences.
Recommend: The Energy of Money: A Spiritual Guide to Financial and Personal Fulfillment Many of us are having money problems at this time or have permanently had money issues, like me. I recommend reading “The Energy of Money”. It’s about our relationship to everything (yes everything) including money.

I do not know the fascination with Pema Chodron’s works. Her voice sounds like somenoe who has never known a day of joy in her life. She is extremely repressed sounding and sucks the life out of LIFE. I felt like I was chocking on cardboard listening to her. While I agree with her that we shouldn’t contine to judge that we can creat a permanence to our lives her way is just as devoid of seeing the truth. Lovingkindness and Compassion are what makes life worthwhile but I felt like my mind was being dragged over cement listening to how she thought we should go about accomplishing this. There are plenty of teachers who are better such as Jack Kornfield or Sharon Salzburg who seem to convey some of these thoughts in a way that feels compassionate. I reflect Pema just has catchy titles for her books. She also offers no reasonable way to live out these teachings in a way that works towards peace or the caretaking of our planet.

This is book presents some unusual thoughts, but does NOT help you or teach you how to look at things in a more constructive or positive way or to guide you how to hadle the crisis in hand.
DONT read this book if you are miserable or depressed as this book will just make things worse, or at least look worse.
