Product Description
The perfect gift for the legions of fans of the Rolling Stones: timeless wisdom and spiritual beliefs inspired by one of the world’s fantastic survivors, Keith Richards. What is a wise man? What is a prophet? A name with a weird, unflappable demeanor. A name who speaks in cryptic koans, words whose meanings take years to unravel. A name who has confronted death, God, sin, and the immortal soul. A name unfit for this world, but too brilliant to depart it. A name, in fleeting, like Keith Richards. Here, at last, the wisdom of this remorseless man is recorded and set into the world. These are his visionary words: I would rather be a legend than a dead legend.” Or Whatever side I take, I know well that I will be blamed.” AndindeedI’ve never had a problem with drugs, only with policemen.” Not merely a compendium of wisdom, this book is also a perfect guide to the inner workings of a complex and inspired belief system, and the life of a man sanctified by fame. What Would Keith Richards Do? reminds us to learn from our mistakes, let our instincts lead us, and above all, do what Keith has done better than anyonesurvive.

I like Keith, but the book disappoints more than not. And to cap it all off with a guide’s pie recipe? I was expecting to see one for the perfect speedball, all in fun (of course)……
I guess as a vehicle for KR’s sense of humor, it works. You may like it.
I liked ‘Up and Down with the Rolling Stones’ by Spanish Tony Sanchez………whether it was partly exaggerated or not, it was and still is a excellent read.

First off in the interest of full disclosure: I am not a die-hard Rolling Stones or Keith Richards fan. I like their composition, and I didn’t reflect it would matter if I was a casual fan in terms of my reading and reviewing this book. The book is not linked with or blessed by Keith. So, you’re basically getting some of Keith’s life events and quotes and an leader has turned them into a full book on Keith’s “wisdom”. I establish a lot of quotes appealing as well as experiences about Keith, so perhaps I’d be better off finding a history book on Keith or the Stones rather than this loosely place-together book.
In any case, the leader has a chapter on “what would Keith do”, based only on Keith’s experiences. Who knows if Keith would really do these things, but I find some danger in following the leader’s interpretation of what Keith would do in certain situations. At least if I knew they were coming directly from Keith, I could take them with a grain of salt but the leader tries to pass this off as some type of self-help book. As I mentioned, there are some excellent quotes in here but I establish reasonably a few repeated throughout the book to reinforce different views. I reflect this was mostly just a book of quotes and Keith-isms with a lot of filler in between for the sake of writing a book.
On a side note, the abusive use of varying fonts throughout, especially for the chapter titles and the quotes, can be a bit distracting. I’m not a graphic designer or a font snob, but it just gave the book even less credibility. Also, I would have liked a photo or two, especially in the chapter describing how Keith came to place together his wardrobe of scarves, earrings, jewelry, hair adornments, etc.

It was bound to take place… a name was eventually going to take quotations and lyrics from one or more members of //The Rolling Stones// and turn them into a code to live by–or at least advice for what to do along the way. In //What Would Keith Richards Do? Daily Affirmations from a Rock ‘N’ Roll Survivor// by Jessica Pallington West, that exact goal is accomplished. Though it relies heavily on the fact that Richards was once part of one of the greatest rock bands of all time for a significant amount of the advice and seems to tout and remind you of that fact whenever it can, it is still undeniably worth the read.
Charming throughout, //What Would Keith Richards Do?// is certainly an appealing and enjoyable addition to any collection. On the whole, all that can be said is that the man has undoubtedly lived and lived well; thus it is no marvel that Pallington West has chose to place his unique brand of wisdom to use.

There’s some thumbs up to life, and some laughing at life.
Some favorites from the book:
“It’s excellent to be here. It’s excellent to be anywhere.”
“I never turned blue in a name else’s bathroom, I consider that the height of terrible manners.”
“People despise themselves. If they didn’t despise themselves for doing smack, they’d despise themselves for eating carrots.”
“Art is just fleeting for Arthur.”
“The more you get in Mick’s face, the more makeup he puts on.”
“Show me a woman who is faithful, and I won’t judge you.”
“I never had a problem with drugs. Only with policemen.”
“Mick’s rock. I’m roll….. it’s the roll they permanently forget about.”
“Rock n roll: composition for the neck down.”
“Like wears a white stetson.”
“Suddenly the world went from black and white to technicolor.” (on first hearing Small Richard and Elvis.)
“He was stealing my headlines.” (on Sid Vicious)
“The artist has a blank canvas. The writer has reams of paper. The musician has silence.”
“I’ll write all their epitaphs.” (on people who make fun of his Most Likely To Die role)
This is not a book about how to hang from a chandelier (well, maybe, in some parts…) but mostly it is about Life. Fun reading, very excellent information, and amusing. The surprise is that in some ways, it is, surprisingly, about clean living! (and if you can’t live clean…at least in how to be honest about it!….)
Fantastic quotes. Can be returned to again and again. It’s a rock and roll book, and it’s an affirmations/self esteem book, and it’s a humor/parody book, all at once!

A wonderful book with philosophical depth and reasoning, full of delightful quotes by Keith and wonderful wisdom based on “his Legend”.. The leader is clearly a knowledgeable fan and delights devoted fans with brilliant ‘in-jokes’ yet keeps it light-weight enough for all-purpose readership to delight in and draw wisdom from. Others I’ve shared this with permanently delight in the amusing witicisms from Mr. Richards and this makes the most PERFECT gift for any Stones fan. Certainly to be shown off on mantles, showed in dens, or kept close on the night stand for regular nocturnal readings. Extremely hard to place down, easily the most vital book I’ve read in the last few years.
Well, don’t just sit there and read this… BUY IT. You’ll be pleased you did.
