I have made a few recipes from this book and they turned out fantastic. I especially like the variety of dishes made with seitan. The only “complaint” that I have is that some of the recipes include ingredients that are hard to find. I live in a tiny town where people have a pretty limited palate, and I had to order some of the ingredients on-line. For this reason, I give the book 4 stars as a replacement for of 5.

I had pre-ordered this book because I knew it was going to be excellent but somehow I’m surprised at how excellent it really is!
I’ve made a few recipes so far and they have all been fantastic. I really delight in the tempeh recipes because it is a frequent request in my household but I don’t permanently know how to make it appealing. Tempeh Sofrito is my new ‘go to’ tempeh recipe because it is quick and tasty!
One thing I reflect readers should know is that I reflect this book is a bit unique as not only are there a ton of excellent recipes in this cookbook but overall tons of tips and tricks! Not only with the recipes from this book be incredible but the tips and tricks will help transform your regular favorites into something better. I permanently delight in ways to improve the flavors of my cooking and improve my overall cooking skills and I reflect this book does that.
I highly highly recommend this cookbook to anyone who wants to explore central and south American cooking!

I got Viva Lacto-vegetarian! last week and immediately sat down to bookmark all the recipes I want to try. I establish myself marking nearly every page as everything sounds fantastic and appealing.
Over the weekend I made the basic sofrito, the Venezuelan black beans, the creamy avocado tomato salsa and the sweet potato chipotle broth – all delicous!
This is going to be one well-used cookbook!

After a recent trip to Costa Rica I wanted a lacto-vegetarian cookbook that teaches Latin American cooking and this does just that! Lucky for me the book had just been unrestricted. I fell in like with Gallo Pinto in Costa Rica and tried to get the recipe right on my own but couldn’t do it – with the help of this cookbook I was able to get it perfect! There are tons of additional wonderful recipes in this cookbook, too. I like how it specializes on a point type cuisine and not all over the place like most lacto-vegetarian cookbooks. I just really LOVE this cookbook.

I am a recently converted lacto-vegetarian. I am lucky enough to have the full support of my closest friends and family tree; my mom even sought out a vegetarian restaurant when she was on a business trip to see what it was all about!
I realized recently, but, that supportive as they are, many don’t reflect that it’s possible to have a lacto-vegetarian meal that doesn’t taste like “substitution” food. I have no desire to shove my opinion down people’s throats; when we have visitors or I have to contribute food, I would LOVE to be able to prepare and share lacto-vegetarian meals where they don’t automatically notice that there aren’t any animal products. I’ve quickly learned that this is more than just possible–it’s probable. Like any kind of cooking– you just have to learn the techniques and tricks of the trade (for instance, until reasonably recently I didn’t realize that it is a excellent thought to press tofu). This book is a fantastic resource for achieving this goal.
Last night my spouse (an omnivore) and I had the chickpea potato enchiladas paired with spinach, capers and raisins– it was AMAZING; I never anticipated capers and raisins pairing so brilliantly together. My spouse, a self proclaimed cheese-addict said that they were some of the best enchiladas I’ve ever made hands down. I followed the recipes to a T. In the future he’ll request these over their cheese-drenched cousins.
As additional reviewers have alluded to, the educational components of the book are thorough, enlightening and engaging. I am completely smitten with this book and would recommend it to anyone interested in apt a better lacto-vegetarian cook and/OR just better acquainted with Latin American cooking in all-purpose.
