Product Description
Virus of the Mind is the first well loved book devoted to the science of memetics, a controversial new meadow that transcends psychology, biology, anthropology, and cognitive science. Memetics is the science of memes, the invisible but very real DNA of human society.
In Virus of the Mind, Richard Brodie carefully builds on the work of scientists Richard Dawkins, Douglas Hofstadter, Daniel Dennett, and others who have become fascinated with memes and their potential impact on our lives. But Richard goes beyond science and dives into the meat of the issue: is the emergence of this new science going to have an impact on our lives like the emergence of atomic physics did in the Cold War? He would say the impact will be at least as fantastic. While atomic bombs affect everybody’s life, viruses of the mind touch lives in a more personal and more pernicious way.
Mind viruses have already infected governments, educational systems, and inner cities, leading to some of the most enveloping and troublesome problems of society today: youth gangs, the welfare cycle, the wear of the public schools, and ever-growing government bureaucracy.
Viruses of the mind are not a future worry: they are here with us now and are evolving to become better and better at their job of infecting us. The recent explosion of mass media and the information superhighway has made the planet a prime breeding ground for viruses of the mind.
Will there be a mental plague? Will only some of us survive with our free will intact? Richard Brodie weaves together science, ethics, and current events as he raises these and additional very disturbing questions about memes.
If you’ve ever wondered how and why people become robotically enslaved by publicity, religion, sexual fantasy, and cults, marvel no more. It’s all because of “mind viruses,” or “memes,” and persons who know how to plant them into additional’s minds. This is the first truly accessible book about memes and how they make the world go ’round.
Of course, like all excellent memes, the thoughts in Brodie’s book are double-edged swords. They can vaccinate against the effects of cognitive viruses, but could also be used by persons seeking power to gain it even more effectively. If you don’t want to be left behind in the coevolutionary arms race between infection and protection, read about memes.

This is a gift I gave to a name. I have no thought how to rate it. I’m assuming it’s a wonderful book of its genre.

This book is the essential Memetics Manual, the first is the best. It gives you point details on monsters. Being that I only have 2 hit points, I have to pick my monsters carefully. Once, while at Burgermaster, a kolbold threw a burger at me with his lob. He rolled a 20, a critical hit, and the burger did 2x the normal hurt, knocking me out for 2 hp! As I lay unconcious, a gelatinous cube slowly slimed my burger and fries up. When I came to, I saw him slowly digesting my burger and fries and I exclaimed “How rude!” But the Gelatinous cube just rumbled his gelationous bulbous stomach at me. I would have kicked it’s ass, but luckily the Monster Manual told me that would’ve been a terrible thought to use my hands. So as a replacement for I used my bic lighter and he apologized for eating my combo #1.

I ordered this camera a few weeks ago and I like it, I had a Nikon SLR I bought back in 1984 and it was a fantastic camera and still is but it was time to get a digital one, I haven’t learned all about the new one but what I have learned is fantastic, the pictures are wonderful, I am very pleased and so glad I chose on it, I like Nikon anyway and this one is the best I have ever had and I will be using it in Europe in a few weeks.

Pretends to be scientific, but is simply trivia turned over and over. I can’t judge this is being reprinted (originally 1996) and available in stores. Garbage!

From childbirth to current, I bit the fruit from the serpent, fled the system, and establish myself in the heart of a city. Cunning ancient men flashing smiles and prepared words, knowing that I’d rebel if I weren’t agreed the ‘deal’.
Let the streets be the court, corners holdin’ examination. A provocative plot, has brought a knot to my hand. Conversing in Russian and German. Plane tickets ready, … but the heart of the city is still ‘tenative’.
The vocal cords still weak, needed work. The stakes were nothing less than the entire city. Inside, he was still hesitant, but: he knew he couldn’t avoid the ridicule soon to come.
