I like this book because it is simple and simple. I am not a ‘cook’..I like to throw things together quick and simple. I don’t keep tons of things on hand and this book gives you the basics that you need. It has a nice variety of meals too. This book is so affordable. (my only wish is that it came with some photos). I would highly recommend it as a fantastic addition to your collection or as a first. And I would also suggest you check out her website…it’s full of fantastic thoughts too!

I’m a recently converted lacto-vegetarian that had distress finding recipes I could make lacking buying a ton of ingredients that weren’t in my pantry. Lacto-vegetarian on the Cheap gives fantastic recipes with normal every day items. The recipes are quick and tasty, and she gives fantastic tips on saving money; most of the recipes are only a couple of dollars per serving. Brilliant book, especially for a newbie.

I don’t say this regularly, but this cookbook is a must-have. Most cookbooks call for a lot of seitan, fake cheese, and lacto-vegetarian mayonnaise, and then have one lousy seitan recipe that takes forever. This cookbook teaches you to make absolutely everything that you would normally buy prepackaged at inflated prices – seitan pepperoni, cutlets, “meat”loaf, and sausage, lacto-vegetarian mayo, sour cream, feta, and cheeze sauce. And that’s just the first section. The recipes that follow are, for the most part, simple and quick, with ingredients you either have on hand, or can get easily at any well stocked grocery store. I bought this book on a whim, and now I use it more than any additional cookbook I own. Buy it.

Robin never fails to write a cookbook that does what it says it does! My spouse and I are trying to cut our food costs lacking giving up healthy, lacto-vegetarian food and this book is the one to buy if that is your goal. There are tons of fantastic recipes in this book and they call for simple, everyday ingredients. I highly recommend this book if you are cooking on a budget or NOT!!!!
