From vintage cars (Christine and From a Buick 8) to household appliances (Maximum Overdrive) to exercise equipment (Stationary Bike), Stephen King has mesmerized us with tales of rumor has it that ordinary machines that take on lives of their own. UR gives this classic theme an up-to-the-minute spin, resulting in a horror masterpiece for our time and for the ages.Amazon.com Review
Since his first novel was published in 1974, Stephen King has stretched the boundaries of the storyteller as a writer who constantly redefines his readers’ experience by effective in various genres and formats . Whether in an epic horror novel, like THE STAND, a serial-novel like THE GREEN MILE, or a tale like SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, King is able to deliver a reading experience like no one else can. As quickly as a spider spins its web, King reminds us why he’s the master of the tale – a format which, up until now that is, one might have thought is quick disappearing. In his new tale, UR, King is at his unsettling best as he examines the future of the written word – for better or worse. Following a grave break-up, lovelorn college English instructor Wesley Smith can’t seem to get his ex-girlfriend’s parting shot out of his head: “Why can’t you just read off the computer like the rest of us?” Egged on by her question and piqued by a student’s suggestion, Wesley places an order for Amazon.com’s Kindle eReader. The [pink?] contrivance that arrives in a box stamped with the smile logo -via one-day manner of language that he hadn’t requested – unlocks a literary world that even the most avid of book lovers could never imagine. But once the door is open, there are persons things that one hopes we’ll never read or live through. Firm, gripping, and deftly written by a craftsman at the top of his game, this is King at his crisp, clear, page-turning best. Download and read UR only on Kindle.

I want my $2.99 back. This is Stephen King at his worst. I already own a Kindle–I don’t need King’s heavy-handed attempt to sell one to me. A huge disappointment and an even larger sell out. I hope he got a free Kindle for this. I deserve a free Kindle2 for trying to read this tale.

I am a King fan and I am not yet finished but… the Kindle logo is in the incorrect place on Henderson`s Kindle and I am not aware of one with a `tiny` NEXT button. I am also a huge Kindle fan but wondering how much Amazon paid for product placement here.

Okay finished in 2-3 days, I should have been quicker to change the tune – obviously King had the pre-relief K2, hence the button issue and in retrospect I do not look at this as sellout for product placement, rather King applying his creative juices to a new toy, and overall, whilst I judge it may have been hastily written, the book was enjoyable. I wouldn’t buy the movie rights, but I would guess this book would light up the Kindle sales well for a while.
