First a confession. I got about half way thorough and haven’t finished it. It’s well written, the tales are appealing, but to me they lack universal applicability. The common theme is people who were fortunate enough to learn a talent that they loved, but I suspect that the leader cherry selected. For every person who finds some talent they can exploit there must be thousands who never find what they’re excellent at or perhaps really don’t have anything very special about them. The people that make it in his tales either seem to be compelled from some inner force, lucky or both which didn’t shed much light on the theme of “Finding your path to significance”. Of course, it’s possible that all the answers are in the back of the book….

Tony Dungy is a remarkable man, and his life tale is well worth reading. But Tony’s motivation for writing this book was to spread the Gospel, so be prepared for a very healthy dose of proselytizing mixed in with more tradition football biography fare.
