“Try Me” is the second book in the new Demon Underground series by Parker Blue. This book picks up only days after “Bite Me” finished, giving the main character, part succubus / vampire hunter Val Shapiro, no time to rest. Val finds out that some ancient book on magic that her father had agreed her are really very valuable one of a kind books. Sorry to say, before they can be of any use to her new demon friends, they’re stolen. At the same time, a group of “excellent” vampires are preparation to announce their being to the world. The vamps want the demons to join them and tension heats up between the two groups. Soon, both sides are being attacked and they start to blame each additional. As a name who is trusted by the top vamp, Val finds herself in the middle. At the same time she dealing with her personal life: her ancient crush, Dan, is avoiding her and a cute Demon, Shade, wants to start a relationship and help Val control her inner lust demon.
Overall, readers who loved the first book will delight in this one too. It maintained many of “Bite Me’s” excellent qualities: a well rounded main character and appealing supporting characters, in a basically excellent plot. I want to see the supporting characters rounded out a bit more – especially concerning the romantic interests. I’m not really feeling that Val’s really connecting to the guys she’s involved with. The book also maintained the first book’s weakness: a simplistic mystery with characters who don’t seem to try to hard to solve it. I once again wanted to question the characters “What are you doing? Question some questions and look for some clues. Don’t just wait for them to come to you.”
Although I loved this book, though I feel there are some weaknesses in it. But, keeping in mind that this is a YA book, I’m willing to overlook these issues as being, a least partly, due to the genre.

Try Me, Book 2 in the Demon Underground series, takes up where Bite Me left off. I reflect this second book was even better than the first! Despite one rather ridiculous scene involving Fang in the police station demonstrating his ability to know English when Val comes out of the closet about her inner demon scenery, this was still an entertaining and enjoyable read. The conversations with Fang were very amusing and the interaction between Val and her family tree poignant as they each make an effort to get along. I like Val’s relationship with Shadow; I reflect they are perfect for each additional and I can’t wait to see what they are up to next. Val is streetsmart and proves to be proficient at mediating the tensions brewing between the vampires and the demons, offering honest judgments and compromises as she searches for the stolen Encyclopedia Magika, and the reason why peaceful vampires are suddenly turning into killing machines. I look forwards to the next installment in this series!

I had to have this as soon as i finished the first book “Bite Me”. The second book of the demon underground series is every bit as excellent as the first one. The only thing i didn’t like was the switch of like interests. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes vampire and demon novels. It is truly an engaging read.

I’m really enjoying this series, it reminds me a lot of the Buffy tv show. I selected up the Kindle version of the first book, Bite Me, when it was offered for free and I wasn’t expecting much. But I really loved the first book, I couldn’t place it down, and I really liked the relationship between Dan and Val. Because I liked that relationship so much, I did not delight in Try Me as much as I did Bite Me. It seemed like the leader didn’t like the direction the tale was taking after Bite Me was unrestricted and so changed it for Try Me. Changing the direction of the tale and changing Val’s like interest from Dan to Shade didn’t bother me (I reflect Shade is a better match for Val); rather, it was the way that change was handled. The perfect change in Dan’s character from how he was described in Bite Me was irritating. Dan acted so out of character that I was glad he wasn’t such a huge presence in Try Me. I reflect the leader could have handled that transition from one like interest to the next better, keeping right to the characters’ customary personalities, so that is why I gave the book four stars as a replacement for of five.
That being said, I did delight in the book. I liked Try Me’s plot more than Bite Me’s plot. In Try Me, the vampires are ready to go public and announce their being, but they also want to take the demons with them. Many of the demons do not want to keep their being a secret, and tensions rise between the vampires and demons. Something starts building the vampires who drink packaged blood go crazy, and the vampires blame the demons. The Encyclopedia Magicka is stolen from the demons, and some of the demons want to blame the vampires. Val has to help solve both mysteries and keep peace between the two to prevent a war. Meanwhile, Val is also trying to come to terms with who she is and what kind of powers she has. I loved the book and can’t wait for the next book. I certainly recommend t to any urban fantasy fans, regardless of their age.

I really liked Parker Blue’s first book Bite Me, but I wasn’t sure how I felt about Dan being her like intrest. I like him most of the time, but I got so mad at him for how he treated Val about her inner demon. Try Me picks up right where Bite Me left off except Shade, a shadow demon from book one, is Val’s like intrest. I like this match much better, and I hope that the leader sticks with it. Val is maturing and exploring what it means to be herself, not just the slayer. We also get introduced to a lot of new characters that I am sure are going to play larger parts in the future. The mystery was intresting but couldn’t really be completely solved lacking the leader telling us. The relationship with Val and her mom is getting better, and I was pleased that things weren’t as terrible as before. All in all, I liked this book even more than the first one. I look forwards to the next in the series.
