In Tripwire, Reacher is settling into bone idle Key West when his life is interrupted by a weirder who comes looking for him. When the weirder turns up beaten to death in the Ancient Town cemetery – fingertips removed – Reacher knows whomever the man was effective for is not a friend. Reacher follows the trail to New York, where he confronts the people who dispatched the dead man: an elderly couple still mourning an all-American son lost in Vietnam; an alluring and intelligent woman from Reacher’s own haunted past; and at the center of the web, an opponent more vicious than any he’s ever faced.Amazon.com Review
Ex-military policeman Jack Reacher is lying low in Key West, digging up swimming pools by hand. He is not at all pleased when a private detective starts asking questions about him. But when the detective, Costello, turns up dead with his fingertips sliced off, Reacher realizes it is time to go on.
As in Lee Child’s two previous thrillers, Die Trying and Killing Floor, Reacher is soon up to his neck in lethal distress, this time involving a vicious Wall Street manipulator, a mysterious woman (of course), and the livelihood of a whole community. Even the fate of soldiers missing in action in Vietnam is stirred into the brew.
But this is not a book by one of the new breed of U.S. thriller writers. Child prides himself on his ability, as an Englishman, to write American thrillers that are utterly convincing in milieu and toughness of action, lacking a trace of English sensibility. Tripwire is no exception. Every bit as lean and compulsive as its predecessors, it also builds on the freshest aspect of persons books: Reacher may be a tough, epic hero, but he permanently remains human and vulnerable. –Barry Forshaw

Unless Costello’s secretary is also a loner lacking any family tree tie, her disapperance after such a long period should be incurred a missing person investigation by the police. It’s impossible that when Reacher returned to Costello’s office, the door was still unlocked and with no changes at all. You should be very careful in writing this kind of novel since we readers are not so careless in reading. You should at least find a better editor who could spot your overlooks.

This is my first book by Lee Childs, but it won’t be my last. He writes concisely and well, with completely drawn characters and terrific suspense.

Too unrealistic, even for a thriller.
Jack Reacher was just an MP officer in the Army as far as we know, he isn’t Batman.
I noticed another reviewer mentioned there isn’t business class on most domestic US flights. It sounds like a tiny thing, but it’s distracting. Also, Reacher buys a plane ticket in Miami lacking id. When did this tale take place?!
The one that killed me: Reacher goes shopping with the girl, he doesn’t remember the name of the last store he bought clothes in – Hole? Gap? Come on! Was this guy in the Army for 13 years or was he a frozen caveman??? Lee Child – show me an American serviceman who doesn’t know what The Gap is!!
Lee Child has some talent, but sometimes you can tell he’s English writing an American tale. He’s cleary fascinated by huge American vehicles and automatic transmissions. And he slips sometimes and uses words like KIT to clarify military equipment. Very British. Not a huge deal – but sometimes he’s a small out of touch.

Ilove all of Lee Child’s books. This one isn’t as excellent as his first, but still worth reading.

I continue to delight in Mr. Childs books, Jack Reacher is unbelievable galloping you through the book with exciting and stimulating moves. A double shot of Macho, a single of forensics, and a alcoholic drink of adventure with a champaign glass of tenderness makes for a fantastic read. I will look forwards to reading more of his writings at this point I have read five.
