This book really doesn’t deserve to be called a classic. It’s just not in the league of additional classic literature. The writing is mediocre at best, insufferable at its worst. Hurston’s attempt at capturing the dialect of African Americans is reasonably honestly hard to read and know. For all the effort a reader puts into deciphering her meaning, all the reader gets is a trite like tale. There’s a reason this book nearly fell into obscurity. Excellent for a beach read, but not for the classroom.

I ordered the movie and just had to get the book. The book’s is okay kinda of hard to read the ebonic wording of that era. But overall it’s a excellent book.

This book sucked. Richard Wright was right when he stated that Zora Neale Hurston pandered to white prejudiced readers. The way Hurston’s black characters speak in this book describes African Americans as stupid, easily fooled, and naive. The tale was dull, pointless, and poorly written. The book, in fleeting, was unbelievably terrible, and if it weren’t for I school assignment, I wouldn’t have wasted time and money reading this bilge.
