If human beings disappeared straight away from the Planet, what would take place? How would the planet reclaim its surface? What creatures would emerge from the dark and swarm? How would our treasured structures–our tunnels, our bridges, our homes, our monuments–survive the unmitigated impact of a planet lacking our intervention? In his revelatory, bestselling account, Alan Weisman draws on every meadow of science to present an environmental assessment like no additional, the most distressing portrait yet of humankind’s place on this planet.

Mr. Weisman has a very imaginative mind. He questions us to speculate on what the planet would be like lacking human. Sorry to say his speculation is just that. One would is in his right mind should not even speculate on Allen’s imaginative wonderings. One should not even reflect about it. You should not even reflect or imagine about ifs. This guy is a sadist. He I wouldn’t bother reading another crazy book like this, since it shows a sick mind. I judge in the Bible like most people on Planet. The Bible is the most well loved book on Planet. And for excellent reason. In it the Bible states that man will permanently inhabit the Planet. Period. There will permanently be air a plenty and sexual drives in teenagers for them to have sex or masturbate or do what ever that want. What they do is none of our business. I don’t even reflect about it. But my point is G_d is in control so people don’t have to worry about the Planet. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t eradicate viruses, or ban radioactive nuclear weapons or take care of our environment. But even if we fall, G-d Will will be done as most Christians say all over the world in their daily prayers, etc. So if man doesn’t do anything about Global warming, people should have no dread, The Lord will protect this planet and the people who are righteous. So I say to people who want to read this book, throw in the garbage can where is belongs. Don’t even reflect about the crazy theories that this sick leader, Mr. Allen Weisman says in his book. Don’t imagine or speculate on this wild notions. Judge in G-d and do right and the world will be saved. No by idiots like this leader but by excellent people. He should stick to books about Dan Rather which was excellent reading. And his book on his past hertiage was ok. He should forget the the echo in your blood talk. There is no echo in a name’s blood. You don’t hear anything. I just don’t dig the way he rights some times. But his past books has been excellent.
This one is trash. Don’t speculate or even reflect about his preposterous ramblings on. The world should have a one child policy. I don’t want the world to be like China which has that policy and is ruled by the dictatorship of the Communist party. A country where they are installing 20,000 street cameras in one province or city. I don’t want a society where Huge Brother is watching my every go. And humans don’t have any privacy. Sure people should take care of their planet as there will be permanently be people on this planet and plenty air to breath. Don’t let this leader make money on scaring people half to death with his thoughts that NO ONE should even reflect about, question and chat about. The Bible says the world will permanently be here. Judge it and not this crazy writer. Let’s people a better world taking care of each additional and this planet and throwing this book in the sewer where is belongs as smells like the stuff that in the sewer, excretment and additional stuff. Peace and fulfillment is in hands of excellent people who know the Lord. Thank you for reading this.

This book provides eye opening factual details of a world lacking
the help of humans. But, stretching the timeline into
several milinium after we are gone is less appealing. My interest
and maybe some others, only reaches the part of one lifetime, say a hundred or a hundred & fifty years into the future.

Appealing thought conduct experiment if you’re going to re-write Planet of the Apes, or a tale about aliens. But, as open, this is misanthropic, self-loathing taken to an manaiacal extreme. It’s pathalogical.
Here’s a couple more appealing thought experiments:
*what would take place if our government were taken over by people who had drunk enough of this radical environmentalist kool-aid to reflect the world would be better off “lacking us”?
AND
*what’s the most cost-effectively safe way to exterminate 3 billion human beings?

Was this book written by a Democratic liberal apologist for humanity? Ultimately, a book which serves no purpose except to reveal to us that we are insignificant small spiders in the universe.

I’m glad to see the editorial review from Publishers Weekly and all the laudatory reviews from readers, all confirming that the modern environmental movement isn’t motivated so much by its like for the environment, as by its contempt for humanity.
So, if the human race were to become extinct tomorrow, all the things we’ve made would slowly collapse and disintegrate, and eventually the world would revert to a garden of Eden. And we’re supposed to reflect that this is some kind of thought-provoking original thought, as if that’s not exactly what environmentalists have been dreaming of for decades now.
Well, maybe they have a point. Maybe we should all feel terribly guilty for just existing. Maybe that woman in England who had an abortion and then had herself sterilized in order to lower her carbon trace was right. Maybe we should all have ourselves sterilized. Better yet, maybe all 6 to 7 billion of us should just kill ourselves right now. After all, the sooner we’re all dead, the sooner the world can become pristine again.
But wait, there’s a better way. After all, some people are more environmentally conscious than others. And the planet probably could continually support, say, a billion of us, as long as persons billion lived as primitively as possible and left no trace behind of their being. So maybe the UN should appoint an elite council of environmentalists to choose which billion should be allowed to live and which six billion should be exterminated in order to preserve a sustainable planet. Seems a tiny fee to pay. I have no doubt that most of persons who gave this book five stars would enthusiastically support such a go.
