Product Description
FOR USE IN SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES ONLY. A first-generation Chinese-American woman recounts growing up in America within a tradition-bound Chinese family tree, confronted with Chinese ghosts from the past and non-Chinese ghosts of the present.Amazon.com Review
The Woman Warrior is a spicy, bitter, but perfectly written memoir of growing up Chinese American in Stockton, California. Maxine Hong Kingston (China Men) distills the dire lessons of her mother’s mesmerizing “talk-tale” tales of a China where girls are worthless, tradition is exalted and only a strong, wily woman can scratch her way upward. The leader’s America is a landscape of confounding white “ghosts”–the policeman ghost, the social worker ghost–with equally rigid, but very different rules. Like the woman warrior of the title, Kingston carries the crimes against her family tree carved into her back by her parents in testimony to and defiance of the pain.

This book is dull and terrible. It is about a girls daydreaming and one has distress trying not to daydream with this book. I had enough by page 10 but because of school kept reading. This book is not worth my two cents.

This was assigned for summer reading in freshman yr at my college. I can’t judge gibberish stuff like this gets published. Kingston’s past accounts were dull to read about, at times confusing with all the muti-named relatives. The events were and pointless and just blah. I tried to make it to the end of the book, but sadly I didn’t. It was just too dull! I would give this less than one star if I could. Do yourself a favor and avoid this like the plague.

It was dull and I had no clue as to what in the world Kingston was trying to get across to the reader. I establish it confusing and I couldn’t stand the feminism garb. I don’t find this style of writing appealing at all and I don’t see how it was entertaining. And I’m one who likes to read, this book was a waist of time. I either want to read a book that is fiction or non-fiction. I don’t want my mind messed with. Kingston’s confused me by jumping from one tale the next. So I just say heck with the book. And reading from additional people’s responses, it doesn’t look like too many people loved it. I’m one of them.

This book was okay. It’s muh better than the additional books assigned to us. On reading the back take in I got flashbacks of Joy Luck club. This book was certainly much better than that God dreadful Amy Tan.

This isn’t a memoir, it is just a bunch of crappy tales. Some parts are entertaining and well written, others place you wishing you were reading something else. Most of my classmates establish it pretty crappy. If you aren’t force to read it for a class, spend your time on something else.
