This compendium is incredible, and for the fee I got it for… well, you just can’t beat that. But my review is for the service I’ve received through amazon, which, to say the least, was less than desirable. I ordered this product before my birthday, and did not recieve it until 2 months later. The shipment was postponed 3 times. But you really can’t beat the prices you get from amazon, so I’ll probably keep buying my trades and such here, but be warned this isn’t the first time I’ve had problems with amazon. I bought a copy of Preacher vol. 2 and the last 50 pages were missing. THEN when I returned it, amazon claimed they never received it and charged me again. I could write 2 or 3 similar tales, but I will place it at that. Just know that it is a coin toss as to whether or not you will receive this product a) intact, or b) on time.

This book is exactly what I thought it would be. It is the first 48 issues or so of this series with no extras in it. It was a very excellent fee, but Amazon did a terrible job shipping. The used packing material with no air in it. The Book came to me very much hurt. Amazon customer service never got back to me. So now I’m pretty much out the cost of the book because I had to buy another one. Very disappointing.

So from the title… I have to admit this is aimed more then less at Amazon itself. I like zombie tales..LOVE!!! Every since I was 13 and watched “Night”.. I have been completely in like with Zombie flicks. I ordered 6 Zombie books last week. I got the 2nd books of everything I ordered… So now I’m 2nd book in on Morning Star, and The walking Dead. I wouldn’t complain, but I ordered all these books cause I was told “in stock”? I loved MorningStar and Walking.. I want to really see where these tales ongoing.. I ran out of reading, so had to just say screw it and jump in feet first on the 2ndary books. Sorry to bitch, but It has got me pretty steamed.

I heard a lot of excellent things about Walking Dead so I selected up the first volume cheap and I loved it, the tale and art was perfect. Just as I was about to pick up the rest of the volumes I heard about this #1-48 compendium, so I waited and got the best deal for it here on amazon. When I got my copy I did a quick flick through it and to my utter shock I saw the one fault with the Walking Dead staring at me. Now when it comes to being a comic fan you either care about art or you don’t. As I am of the ex- this is the fault I’m going to talk about, if you are of the latter then there’s no need for you to read on.
To anyone that’s still new to this series I’m sorry to report that the art of Walking Dead took a major blow when the awesome volume 1 art of Tony Moore was replaced with the sub par work of Charlie Adlard. This doesn’t detract from it being a fantastic tale that’s really worth a buy, but I don’t reflect it’s an issue that should be ignored either. The problem is not just that Adlard is not that excellent of an artist, his work is inconsistent too. Here’s a few examples- there are times that he forgets that Glenn is supposed to be Asian; In some scenes Carl (Ricks son) looks his age and in others he doesn’t, his hair style is different from what Moore drew too; There are three characters Rick, Hershel and Otis if you’re not paying attention its simple to mix them up because they’re all drawn alike. What I’m adage is that you will more then likely go back and reference additional pages and particularly Moores superior art just to confirm “Oh that’s who that character is”. But despite the fact that the change in artist is such a huge disappointment it’s still worth a look for the fantastic tale and you’re getting a fantastic deal with this.
Regarding the front take in of this book I reflect they should have chosen a more generic take in like the ones on the hardcover omnibus editions, the picture itself is kind of spoilery. On a final note I’ll say that if you did delight in this book I recommend you pick up from volume 9 of the regular trades. I say this because if we are to assume that it will take the same amount of time for Compendium volume 2 to come out as volume 1 did, then we won’t see volume 2 until 2014. I can be uncomplaining for things to come out, but not that uncomplaining.
