Product Description
Part memoir, nutritional primer, and political manifesto, this controversial examination exposes the destructive history of agriculture—causing the hurt of prairies and forests, driving countless species extinct, altering the climate, and destroying the topsoil—and asserts that, in order to save the planet, food must come from within living communities. In order for this to take place, the argument champions eating locally and sustainably and encourages persons with the resources to grow their own food. Further examining the question of what to eat from the perspective of both human and environmental health, the account goes beyond health choices and discusses potential moral issues from eating—or not eating—animals. Through the deeply personal narrative of a name who practiced veganism for 20 years, this unique exploration also discusses alternatives to manufacturing farming, reveals the risks of a lacto-vegetarian diet, and clarifies why animals belong on cost-effectively sound farms.

This book is full of so much misinformation, it’s astounding.
And I cannot judge that Derrick Jensen gave it a glowing review. I thought he was a name who believed in compassion. Rumor has it that not.

The writer of this book should read “The China Study.” I feel that Keith is writing more out to get money then really help anyone. I read it trying to be open minded but Keith lack’s excellent research to back this belief.

I can agree with the truth that all types of eating are pretty much destroying the world. But until we all evolve into beings who do not need to eat, ala the celestian prophecy, every way of eating and every “cult” around that way of eating is unavoidable. This leader has evolved from a ranting lacto-vegetarian into a ranting non lacto-vegetarian. Not all vegans judge their way of life is perfect solution or have eating disorders. Veganism, is for some, a spiritual, personal choice. And although 1/3 of all anorexics/bulemic may be vegetarians, 2/3 are not. People who don’t eat meat are just another segment of the population demographic, like meat eaters or Christians or people who like horses. whatever. The “facts” in this book are are extremely scewed to reflect the authors opinions and not well researched.

T. Colin Campbell’s classic book says it all. Kieth’s work is just the latest in a string of oppositionalism that catapults writers to fame– Dan Brown, anyone?
When I became a lacto-vegetarian, health problems I had had FOR YEARS disappeared– they were fully attributable to hormone imbalances in my environment and particularly in the foods that I had been eating.
There will permanently be persons like Kieth who try to excuse lifestyle failings (whether in reality, or just in terms of promoting their own careers)– so the moral and political vegans will continue to come under fire.
But purely health conscious vegans need never dread– when it’s done right, the lacto-vegetarian diet has no equal in terms of positive benefits.

I am really looking forwards to reading this book, but I have not done so yet.
My review is about A1Books who sold me this book. I suggest that you not buy from A1books. They sent me the incorrect book and their customer service has been horrible. It is so much effort to get the right book. I wish I had just gone to the local book store and bought the book as a replacement for.
Buyer Beware
