The book itself is very hard to use — it won’t stay open and I could not even break the binding to get it to lie flat. I made the kale potato soup tonight. It was disgusting to look at and smell and I threw it down the toilet and place the book in the donation pile.

Usually the recipes are for more than a couple of people, as I live alone I have to cut back on a lot of the recipes.

I bought this book based on the fantastic reviews. I have made three different recipes so far and two were dreadful and finished up getting tossed. The third recipe, for lentil pate, was okay, but not fantastic. The book is pretty and simple to read, but, so far, the recipes are nowhere near the quality of Veganomicon.

The recipes I’ve tried were dull and the recipes I’ve purused seem similarly uninteresting or hard to prepare. I like her baking cookbook, but this one was a letdown. A lot of the recipes are similar to some that are better in additional lacto-vegetarian cookbooks I own, so I was let down in not having new and different recipes as I’d hoped. Like additional reviewers noted, the way this cookbook was set-up left a lot to be desired as well. I would much rather have the recipes by characteristics such as main dish, desserts, breakfast, etc. than by season and number of people. I reflect it would have worked a lot better if she had listed it that way in an appendix rather than as the main thrust of the book. I would suggest additional lacto-vegetarian cookbooks such as Veganomicon, Lacto-vegetarian with a Vengeance, or Quick and Simple Lacto-vegetarian Comfort Food as a replacement for.

there is not much to add about the recipes since additional reviewers have covered it but here are my 2 cents.
The proportions don’t make sense. The dinners for two permanently end up being dinners for 4. That has been the most disappointing thing for me. The seasonal classification is excellent but sometimes there are dishes with tomatoes in the winter menu!!
