may david liebovitz spend the rest of his days in the most unpleasant ring of “purgatorio” sisyphus-like, but as a replacement for of the stone drill may he be forced to perpetually clean “merde de chien” from between his toes. he certainly doesn’t deserve paris; on the additional hand there will permanently be a paris sans liebovitz. i’ve seen a number of pieces in the press about him, his book, and his supposed culinary prowess: all i’ve got to observe is this—if his cooking is as excellent as his ability to con naive american readers then he is escoffier reincarnate. as for the heap reviewers on record here, many of them appear to be clueless as he.

We lived in France for 10 years, and establish his anecdotes and experiences to be nearly identical to ours. Reading this book, the feeling of nostalgia was so strong it hurt.
But can anyone who hasn’t lived in France (or outside their home country), or hasn’t at least developed a passion for France, really delight in this book to the fullest? I’m not sure. That’s the reason for my 4-star review. For me personally, it’s a 5+.

Having been in Paris in the late 80’s I can tell to and laugh with many of the glorious and perplexing aspects of the people, the city, and oh the fabulous food! Reading this book brings it all back to me and inspires to me to renew my passport and get back to Paris, to explore once more…the city and the bistros!

Bought the book and couldnt place it down, loved it. I felt like I got to go to Paris the way David writes. What fantastic recipes as well. I have since bought two of his books. Scoops and Chocolate. Please write anotherbook David. Maybe about one of your trips to Italy to get coffee. Stay a while for us!!
