I should start out by adage I have not read any of the earlier books in this series, so this is my introduction to the Bellamy clan.
George Bellamy is dying of a brain tumor, and rather than continue fruitless and painful treatments, he opts to spend his last summer at a place where he has many memories, excellent and terrible. His family tree goes berserk and seems incapable of respectig his choice, so they send his grandson, newly returned from Afghanistan, to ‘talk some sense into the ancient man’.
George likes his grandson very much, and he’d like to see him find like before George dies. If you’re prepared to accept the premise that a man can run an ad on Craigslist for an end-of-life-care nurse and successfully recruit his grandson’s soulmate…it strikes me as improbable but there’s a lot of that in romantic fiction, so be prepared to place your skepticism in a box and go with the flow. The thing is, George deliberately looked for a woman who’d suit his grandson. On Craigslist. OK never mind, going with the flow here…
The tale is pleased and sad and at times just painful to read. Even not having read about these characters before, I came to like George a whole lot, and when the inevitable happened, it made me very sad.
This is a excellent, levelheaded romance tale but I’d say it breaks no new ground. It’s predictable and enjoyable at the same time.

I loved this book – it is a book that stays with you. This novel has many tales that all connect and make a gorgeous tapestry. George is a man who lived an incredible life and now has a mortal cancer – so he hires Claire to be his nurse. Claire is a nurse and also in semi-witness protection program so she has secrets. Ross is George’s grandson – just getting out of Military. The family tree all end up a summer resort as George’s last request. There are some many fantastic moments of romance, adventure and reminiscing. Wow what a tale – run out at get this book & box of tissues – Brilliant.

The Lakeshore Chronicles
George Bellamy finds that his brain tumor has become inoperable and untreatable lacking a fantastic deal of pain, so he decides to stop treatment and live his remaining days enjoying life. He has made a list of all the things he want to do before he dies and that means traveling back to Willow Lake and Camp Kioga. He hires a private nurse and sets out on his way.
Meanwhile, George’s grandson, Ross is returning home from Afghanistan as he has concluded his tour of duty and the whole family tree is counting on him to “talk sense” to his grandfather and get him to return home for treatment. When he reaches Camp Kioga and talks to his grandfather, Claire the nurse and reviews his grandfather’s medical reports, even talks to some doctors after a trip to the urgent situation room for George, he realizes he has to bend to his grandfather’s wishes.
One of the first things George wants to do is reunite with a brother he has not seen in 55 years, then he also wants to skydive, ride a Harley, and have a huge family tree reunion. As Claire and Ross work together to make everything take place the grow closer and closer, (something that was also on George’s list.) but her past keeps holding her back.
Yes this tale was a small predictable but there were some surprises too. Susan Wiggs is one of the best current day storytellers around. She weaves the words so wonderfully and takes us right into the tale. There are so many characters that have come from all the books in the series and most where present for the family tree reunion and it is no tiny task to keep them all fresh, and remind us of their history. If you have read the additional books in this series this is a family tree you want to follow and find out what is going to take place next at Willow Lake.
As a side note, the covers on the books in this series are fabulous.

I seem to be in the minority here but I frankly don’t reflect this book was up to her usual standards. Have loved all the Lakeshore books but this could nearly be considered dull. There wasn’t the depth of characters that were in the additional chronicles of the Bellemy clan and it was really predictable. Of course I’ll continue to buy her books because she’s a fantastic leader and everyone is entitled to one not so fantastic effort.
