Tale of the World by Susan Wise Bauer is very nicely written. It’s simple as a “read-aloud” book, but it’s also easily read by a person of fifth grade reading level or above. It covers history throughout the world at the same time so that one gets a sense of what was happening while key events (to the reader) were in the works. I highly recommend it.

This is our second buy of the Tale of the World series. All three of my school age kids (6,8,10 yrs.) just like to listen to these tapes. It is giving all of us (mom included) a much more comprehensive picture of all the parts of history we have learned with additional books. We highly recommend this product for your family tree as a history program or just for listening to in the car for fun. The acitvity book is also full of fantastic thoughts for building this as involved or as simple as you would like it to be.

I like the Tale of the World series immensely and admired the activities and quality of Volumes I and II. I am disappointed with the quality of the illustrations and tan activities in Volume III. Most of them are mediocre and some are very poor. My 8 year ancient establish them to be too childlike and unprofessional. He could draw them himself.
Because of the quality of the curriculum I can’t NOT recommend this book. I would but recommend getting some of the brilliant past tan books by Tom Tierney and others to use in lieu of the tan pages supplied in this book.
I hope the publishers can print a new edition using the same brilliant illustrators that they used in thier first two volumes.
