This has to be one of the worst novels I have ever read. The writing is juvenile and the tale is dreadful.
The thought that the Americans are super excellent guys and the terrorists (idiots, as they are called in this book) are super terrible guys lacks any balance. Of course terrorists kill indiscriminately, but the way the leader describes the conflict is like something a schoolboy would write. I like a lot of American writings and as an example, the Bourne books are far more realistic than this rubbish and they can be a bit OTT at times, but at least they are enjoyable.

I highly recommend this book. Once you start reading it is hard to stop. It’s a excellent mystery that gives you an insight to the Green Zone and living conditions in Iraq. It’s refreshing to see a small different angle in this suspense thriller. You’ll want to read all three of his books in this series.

I was very impressed with The Shot To Die For; this book is truly a value at less than $3. M. H. Sargent paints a very plain picture of Iraq and the dangers facing the military, CIA, as well ordinary Iraqi citizens. The cast of characters are easily likable, as a reader you find yourself rooting for them, hoping that each mission the leader sends them on will keep them with you throughout the book. I feel M. H. Sargent has succeeded in bringing global headlines to life in this book. I’ve read various reports in newspapers and magazines about the events that are taking place in that part of the world. This book puts persons events in context. The tale shows the interplay of real world politics and clashing world views in the lives of the book’s characters. The scenarios are believable, the reasoning behind events in the book feels like “ripped from the headlines” reality. And while very realistic, I did appreciate that the book was not “over the top” in it’s violent depictions. Yes, the war is described and violence is part of that, but, it did not seem that the leader let the violence itself drive the book. I am looking forwards to reading the additional two books in this series and hope to see nonstop work from this leader.

For 99cents -this was well worth it!!! What a fantastic find and buy. Now I’ll have to get his additional one.
I just bought the additional book-Seven Days from Sunday. I just took a quick glance and I reflect Seven Days from Sunday should be read first then this one. It has the list of characters and I know that one of the character that was mentions in The Shot to Die for was dead in this book whereas he was listed in the Seven days from Sunday. So I reflect that book should be first and then this one. I am sure it wouldn’t make such a difference. All I know this was a fantastic one and I am sure this additional one will also be just as excellent.
