I thought this book was appealing in the beginning, but after a while it got a small wierd. The wierd part was the dacing robot, but the book crossed the line into bazzar when the alien spacecraft landed in the suburban community of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Super Terrific, but weird.

Huge scary thing book with all the scary ghosts and building your body tremble as you go about reading this book. The fact that all that was told to us in the book and on the re-views, the real fact that it sucked. I despise it huge and to tell you the truth your wasting your money on extra paper. If you like saving paper this isn’t the book for you. Stephen King has a excellent thought going but is missing when to stop and when its scary.
The huge opening of the book “Jack Torrance that thought: officious small prick” what is that? I simply got lost and told my self so what time are we in? What kind of people are we going to meet? When a book is made it should tell the reader more engaged of what the character already knows. This book should start out telling what time it is what am I looking at? What is the setting? A explanation of the characters would of made me more involved and more wanting to read on. Is every thing suppose to be this hard with Stephen King.
When I first read it I was lost and wasn’t frightened and the parts that seemed to be scary was when Jack broke Danny’s harm. That was when I stared to get attention to it but then I got lost again. I didn’t know what I was reading anymore then again when scary stuff came up I just paid attention but really didn’t get frightened. Scary book, RIGHT!. What was Stephen King thinking? The thing that I saw scary was his picture. The book is too much explanation of small things. The first chapter it just talks about Jack getting the job and then something from the past but that’s it. I bet if the book was just said a bit simpler it wouldn’t be as huge and would be more scarier.
You want to scar the readers Stephen King? Vc. Andrews writs scarier novels then you and has the same part as your book. The book goes off explaining how there’s food in there about on paragraph too long. All the guy had to say there’s food in the cabinet in the refrigerator and so on. Don’t need more then three lines to clarify food. I need to get to really scary parts and make me frightened or it sucks.
When I saw the movie to it Danny starts to go into this trance or something of a thing where Tony is telling him something of future events. I really never get that from the book al of a sudden from reading the book he’s there. I reflect they are already there at the place but no. I had to find out later that they are finally going to the hotel.. You must really like Stephen King if your going to buy his book. Stick to the movies Stephen king that’s all your books are excellent for. I’d rather watch these movies on my television rather then reading because I simple don’t get them.
buy from my suggestion Charstopher Pike better leader and the books are scarier.

I used to read King to be well loved as every9one else was… this, Cujo, and the Stand ruined him. I am reasonably anti-King because of it. There are reasonably a few better authors (including my two favorites, Clive Barker and Brian Lumley) and this book can not measure up to any of their work. normally I haeva feeling of satisfaction when i end a book. I was bored when i finished this one.

As a devoted fan of horror genre, i couldn’t die lacking reading Stephen King. After all, he’s considered the greatest horror writer of all times, and i thought any of his books would be an incredible experience about the art of scaring people.
After reading The Bright, though, i desmissed him as a writer. This wasn’t a horror book, but the tale of a man, a drunkard, his entire life place in 400 dull pages. It’s not a horror tale, it’s the tale of a man trying to fight his addiction, and how he failed.
It is set in a haunted hotel, though this is never fully developed. there is no thought why the hotel wants the boy, Danny, who has a power called ‘bright’. As for Jack, no one know how he’s caught by the hotel, whereas Wendy is just a pointless character.
There is never horror, though King makes the reader expecting it every in turn of page. That’s excellent, it’s suspense, but sometimes is should come with a real spectacle of horror, something harder than a hive of wasps.
Then, there’s the climax. Jack, really controlled by the hotel, coming after his family tree. It didn’t work with me. and how the hotel finally loses, it was one of the worst deux ex machinas endings i’ve ever seen. And they’re not rare.
King’s greatest strenght lies in his characterization skills, how he imagines entire lifes. Too terrible that’s all he knows how to do. And even though it works in superb books such as The Green Mile, it fails in horror books.
In a crime, it’s not the detective’s life that matters, but the crime itself. In horror, i don’t care about who’s getting frightened, but rather why and how.
All in all, i don’t recomend this book to anyone. Still, if you’re not convinced, don’t just take my word for it. Get it free in a library, read it, and then choose. Everyone has a different taste.

Although I’m a fantastic Stephen King fan, I simply despise this book and don’t know all the hoopla around it. The characters are absurd, the “scary” parts (like the animated stone animals) are histerically laughable and I couldn’t wait for seeing when will this mess would do me the favor to be over. I’ve noticed that King is a writer that gives multilayered book, like a terrible novel with a excellent ending (read Cujo) or a excellent novel with a terrible ending (read Pet Semetary) but nothing of that happens in this book. The Bright is absurd, ridiculous and by far, the worst book he’s ever written. If you want to see children in a scary book, that really scares you, go and read some John Saul.
