“The greatest political saga, the one that has it all, that gets to the real heart of American politics, is the John Edwards tale… This isn’t just politics, it’s literature. It’s the fantastic American novel, the kind that isn’t written anymore.” –Michael Wolff on John Edwards’s trajectory, on VanityFair.com
The underneath of modern American politics — raw ambition, manipulation, and deception — are revealed in detail by Andrew Young’s riveting account of a presidential hopeful’s brilliant rise and scandalous fall. Like a non-fiction version of All the King’s Men, The Politician offers a truly disturbing, even shocking perspective on the risks taken and tactics employed by a man determined to rule the most powerful nation on planet.
Idealistic and ambitious, Andrew Young volunteered for the John Edwards battle for Senate in 1998 and quickly became the candidate’s right hand man. As the senator became a national star, Young’s responsibilities grew. For a decade he was this politician’s confidant and he was assured he was ‘like family tree.” In time, but, Young was drawn into a series of questionable assignments that culminated with Edwards asking him to help hide the Senator’s ongoing adultery. Days before the 2008 presidential primaries started, Young gained international notoriety when he told the world that he was the father of a child being carried by a woman named Rielle Hunter, who was really the senator’s mistress. While Young started a life on the run, hiding from the press with his family tree and alleged mistress, John Edwards nonstop to pursue the presidency and then the Vice Presidency in the future Obama administration.
Young had been the senator’s closest aide and most trusted friend. He believed that John Edwards could be a fantastic president, and was assured throughout the take in-up that his boss and friend would ultimately step forwards to both tell the truth and protect his aide’s career. Neither promise was kept. Not only a moving personal account of Andrew Young’s political education, THE POLITICIAN offers a look at the trajectory which made John Edwards the ideal Democratic candidate for president, and the hubris which brought him down, leaving his career, his marriage and his dreams in ashes.

Andrew Young has demonstrated what he is. Buying his book only rewards him for his behavior. You can read all you need to know about him and John Edwards in the media. Don’t allow Andrew Young to profit from his attempts to deceive the American public and his turning traitor to his ex- boss.

In court last week Andrew Young was pushed about the truthfulness of his book. Andrew’s response? “I will not allege the book is truthful.” What a waste of everyone’s time. Why didn’t he just fess up he was writing FICTION. Nothing but scums in this whole sordid tale. I only worry about Elizabeth and the children. They never deserved this.

I have owned my Kindle for the last year. While Amazon did, I will NOT capitulate to McMillan’s fee demands. McMillan titles will no longer be part of my Kindle buys.

I am urging everyone to boycott this book and refuse to let any money slip into the pockets of more dishonest, unethical politicians like Andrew Young. After watching both Andrew Young and his wife interviewed on The View it is clear that they have no remorse only excuses for their despeicable behavior in lying to the American People about John Edwards and lack of morals. That they would plot with John Edwards to deceive us only makes them more repugnant.

MacMillan is fighting a losing battle against obvious progree. Thet are concerned that electronic sales will cannibalize their high profit hardcover business so they are significantly delaying the relief of kindle formats. Well there is no amount of strategyizing that will place the toothpaste back in the tube. I only buy kindle versions of books so there is no way that delaying the kindle relief will bring MacMillan an extra dime from me and people like me. What it will do is rage me towards MacMillan and lead me to avoid buying what will be by relief dates stale books,
Get with it MacMillan. Fighting progress is a loser’s game. You lost me.
