Product Description
It’s instant relief for when your 2-year-ancient is on the floor of the toy store, pitching a fit. Or when brother and sister learn that they can’t stand each additional. Or when your son can’t say no to video games.
THE POCKET PARENT is, factually, a pocket-size book of tried-and-right advice, common sense, parental wisdom, and sanity. Written by two professionals who’ve reared six children between them and made a career out of helping others with parenting issues, this handy book will be a lifesaver for every parent of a 2-to-5-year-ancient. It starts with an overall view of the Pocket Parent approach to discipline. Based on unconditional like but firm limits, and aimed at keeping the child’s dignity and self-esteem intact, here are strategies that include “I” statements, modeling, family tree meetings, and “one word” requests. Once the ground rules are set, the guide moves to an A-to-Z compendium of common problems. Just look it up-Rage, Terrible Words, Biting, Chores, Doctor Visits, Fears at Night, Lying, Separation Anxiety-and find the “Sanity Savers” list of suggestions, simple-to-follow bullets, anecdotes, and more.
For the bag, glove compartment, backpack, or shelf in the kitchen, it’s there for you whenever you need it.

It’s a fantastic thought but the pocket size is too tiny especially for grandparents. There is also nothing new in the entire book and the humor is missing.

This book has some practical tips, but mostly it’s very shallow and I don’t reflect it addresses the real problems that come up with raising families and children.

I will never send myself to my room which is what this book says to do when mad. This certainly is not a technique to deal with the situation. It just separates you from the situation as a replacement for of managing it. It also repeats additional parents are going through the same challenges as you are going through. No kidding. I was expecting much more from The Pocket Parent. “Parenting with Like & Logic” is by far a better book!!! I ongoing trying the techniques suggested in Parenting with Like and Logic immediately with incredible results!!! It eliminates all rage and frustration plus addresses all the challenges of raising children of all ages.

This was pretty “stuffy” or “proper” for me. I guess I didn’t know what I was ordering. It seems like it’s designed to be a quick reference guide when you’re out and about with your kids on how to respond when they are acting up. That’s not practical for me. Someday I will sit down and peruse it but haven’t taken the time yet.

I have bought this book because of the excellent rating this book has; But I reflect that the leader may be writing based on a fantasy how he would like a two year ancient child to grow up.
The Book is base on two principles: one give your child what ever they want, the second one is if it doesn’t work make a family tree meeting to talk about it.
Well I have a 2 & 3 year ancient: Children this age cannot be reasoned with and they do not know the concept of a meeting. They do not follow a book of rules. Also it is irresponsible to give your child what ever they want, this is not a way of disciplining a child.
Except for the philosophy of the writer, I find the book hard & dull to read; It may be a excellent only as a reference book, to read one article at a time. Every piece of advise comes with some tale that just does makes the book thicker but is not any importance or appealing to read.
The only part of the book that I did like is the “sanity savers”; these are fleeting lines with advise how to deal directly with the problems as they take place.
