Several years ago, I was fortunate enough to be able to take a class in pop-up engineering with Carol. I can say lacking equivocation that she is an brilliant teacher, and was tickled to learn that she had published a book. And what a book it is! Simple, clear and appealing – what more could you question? Well, how about some extra cards so you can play around some more? Take a class with Carol if you have the chance, but if you don’t (or even if you do), buy this book!

I establish both Volumes 1 & 2 of this book at my local library and have been immensely pleased with them. As a name who was completely unfamiliar with the concept of paper engineering and building pop-ups, I establish this guide to be very user-friendly, enabling me to make simple pop-ups through the various projects listed within the book. It provides users step-by-step instructions and there are wonderful examples provided as well.
As a name who has permanently loved pop-ups books (I also collect them), this has finally motivated me to try building some pop-ups myself, and I have establish it to be an enjoyable activity which I can share with my young daughter who likes effective with paper. This is a wonderful guide and reference book for anyone who want to learn how to make simple pop-ups and be informed about the principles behind pop-ups.

What a terrific, simple to use, wet your appetite book! Carol Barton is the “Queen of Pop-Ups” for sure! Known to all book artists as a leader in de-engineering the concepts of pop and moving book parts. This book takes all of her workshop instructions and puts them in an simple to follow order. A must for all of us that delight in moveable structures in our “book art” and a must for all persons Moms and Dads that want to give their kids a creative outlet beyond crayons and markers! And, as usual, Carol’s book not only teaches, but is a delight to the eye, with fantastic photo examples throughout.

Carol Barton is a poet using sculptural paper. With a few scores and cuts, she makes page after page of entertaining, comical and useful paper magic that is simple enough for a child to do. Her paper engineered series of books takes the simplist form and makes a unique experience for anyone interested in learning this paper monument medium. It is clearly the most concise and logical of any of the paper engineering teaching guides published today.
Carol’s book is perfect for after school programs, libraries, homeschooling arts classes, serious paper engineers who want to start with the basics and erect from there. Each book contains preprinted cards that teach by really building. It is a wonderful addition to any paper engineering library.

I took a class from Carol 4 years ago, this book was agreed to me on my first anniversary, paper! It is a wonderful book to have in my collection so that I am able to recreate things learned in class. It would also work well to teach yourself the basics of pop-ups. It is written in an simple to know manner and gives fantastic examples and practice pieces of paper… It is sure to be loved~
