The Pillars of the Earth
Where to buy The Pillars of the Planet books online?
Product Description
The Pillars of the Planet sweeps through four decades of 12th Century England drawing the listener into the raw, flamboyant middle ages. It is a bright saga of excellent and evil, treachery and intrigue, violence and beauty. Not-so-noble knights, righteous heroes, valiant heroines and both virtuous and immoral men of God highlight this tale. They manipulate, and are in turn manipulated by, the political turmoil and unrest between the reigns of Henry I and Henry II.
The listener will cheer on the fates of the virtuous and hiss at the evil-doers. A truly fascinating tale that the listener will never forget.

I selected this book up at the local library and was excited to read it until I got to the 1st page on the writers preface where the writer stated that he did not judge in God. Since this writer does not judge there is a God, then I do not want to waste any time reading anything he has to say.

I read this book a long time ago. If you like past fiction, you may well delight in this book. As a history buff, especially of the Middle Ages, this book offers a fantastic background with Henry II and the martyr, Thomas Becket. The book focuses on a couple of primary characters and their relationships, how their lives were affected by various concerns and what brought them together. In effect, it’s a look at the upper and lower classes of society in medieval England around 1100 AD. The tie for them all being faith/religion and the building of a cathedral.
The downside of this book is the sexuality in the book. There are several very explicit sex scenes in the book and at least one graphic rape scene. Is there really any need for this additional then titillation? If the passages in question were posted online they could well be considered porn. I have never selected up another Follet book.
I have read reasonably a bit of past fiction, filled with suspense and drama, and I have read reasonably a few that are well written and enjoyable, all of which are not sexually explicit and/or treat intimate scenes with a bit more respect and modesty. Detailed, sexually intimate scenes are not necessary to promote, progress or further renovate a tale-line.
Then again, perhaps Oprah’s loyal fans of women will read this to sate their desires and supress their guilt by rationalizing it at the same time.

Please don’t waste your time like I did. This is a very stupid book.

I never received the book. I e=mailed the sender but she never responded. I want my money back, and if this is the way Amazon operates, I won’t be ordering any more books from them. Susie Johnson

This leader (if he can call himself that) writes for kindergartners. I was so appalled at his writing style — I flipped through the book and sampled 4 pages and then gave it to the Salvation Army. If I could get my money back, that would be fantastic. What a charlatan — I saw an interview with Ken Follett and he looked and sounded intelligent. I was sorely flawed.
