I must say that I bought this book on the might of the title alone, hoping it would shed some light on Sir Sean Connery’s views on renting houses. Sorry to say (or so I first thought) I was reasonably incorrect; it’s really about being on the additional end of a leash. I confess that I hadn’t tried this approach before, but now I have, there is nothing to stop me recommending it to others, provided both parties are pleased.

I bought this book and was looking for some insight of what one can do to help with my dog’s behavior due to trauma from her past owner and dog walking issues and social issues. This book was so dull to start with. The Additional End of the Leash, this book didn’t even go into any training techniques, Patricia Connell just was so into her own dogs, that I felt like I was reading a expose’ on her dog’s lives. Did I gain any insight on remedies to help me along with my dog I rescued who has trauma and is an alpha female dog and can’t walk on a leash or socialize with additional dogs/people. No, I finished up giving the book away before even finishing the last chapter. Enough of Ms. McConnell’s writings, my time was wasted and I could not use any of what I read in her book to my situation.
I would not recommend this book for anyone’s reading if it is to solve your dog’s issues.

The basic thought is excellent, that dogs and humans communicate differently and that we sometimes reflect we are expressing affection but our canine friend may not interpret it as such.
It seems to me that the description was but to some extent oversimplified and there was small on how to place it to practical use.
