Drizzt is back, and facing a world changed forever!
An uneasy peace between the dwarves of Mithral Hall and the orcs of the newly customary Kingdom of Many-Arrows can’t last long. The orc tribes united under Obould start to fight each additional, and Bruenor is determined to end the war that nearly killed him and nearly ruined everything he’s worked to erect. But it will take more than swords and axes to bring a lasting peace to the Spine of the World. Powerful individuals on both sides may have to change the way they see each additional. They may have to start to talk. And it won’t be simple.
The paper-back of the novel that, for the first time since the #4 New York Times best seller The Lone Drow, brought Drizzt Do’Urden to center stage in a book that set fans of Drizzt and the Forgotten Realms line on notice–be prepared for anything! This book wasn’t just the next installment in the long-running saga of the legendary dark elf, but the beginning of a bold new trilogy that will help change the face of the Forgotten Realms world forever.

I have been reading about Drizzt for 16 of the 20 years he has been around and I reflect that it is time for him to retire. Sadly, I reflect that R.A. Salvatore has jumped the shark and it makes me sad because the earlier books are so much better. This book is too choppy and it makes small to no sense.

At the moment I am re-reading the entire series and am now in the middle of Legacy. While reading Exile I realized what was missing from The Orc King, along with the entire Hunter’s Blade Trilogy, and that is the magnificent swordplay of our favorite dark elf. In the first 8 or so books Drizzt was unequalled, save for Artemis Entreri, and could kill pretty much any adversary within seconds. In the last four books his fights go on forever. I mean, his fight with Obould? Are you kidding me? He’s fought much tougher monsters than Obould and it didn’t take him 9 pages to have a draw. Bob Salvatore is certainly my favorite writer, but he seriously needs to take a look into the past and see why we all like Drizzt in the first place, because we wish that we could fight like him. I hope the next book in the series features that graceful “dance of death” that we read about before.

I have been a fan of the Forgotten Realms since it was made. I am a huge fan of Drizzt and group but I must say that the tale lines are getting ancient. I reflect RA is running out of thoughts, and in all-purpose I don’t reflect he is a very excellent writer anyway… just my opinion but I have tried to read some of his additional books such as the Demon Stone books and the Crimson Shadow series and establish them to be a rehash of the theme in Drizzt books. I also read most of the Cleric Quintet but quit on the third book because it was so dull and droll, I later listened to them on Audiobook and does anyone else feel the entire five books could have been condensed into one? It’s like that with this book, I reflect Bob got lucky with Drizzt and was much better at the beginning. Normally I read the Drizzt books overnight, straight through, but this one I have very small interest to read. I would much rather see the Drizzt franchise agreed to Troy Denning or some additional writer that could bring it back to what we all loved about Drizzt in the first place, not this blatant attempt to get top dollar with bottom writing. After 20 years of Drizzt, I reflect the franchise needs more than a shift in the universe… it needs a new writer-
