Product Description
The best-selling The Nursing Mother’s Companion, now in its fully-updated fifth edition, will help you get off to a excellent start and guide you through the early months, covering all the basics of breastfeeding and including simple-reference “survival guides” for quick problem-solving. Since its original publication in 1986, more than 1 million nursing moms have relied on this classic guide.
Breastfeeding has major benefits for both you and your baby– it provides the best nutrition (according to the American College of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization), it saves money (on sick-baby doctor visits and formula and bottles), and it makes a unique bond between you and your child. Breastfeeding is not permanently simple, but with proper guidance and encouragement, you can overcome nearly any challenge you may encounter and continue to breastfeed for as long as you choose.

Huggins is a hippocrite and writes a book that is completely irresponsible. This book does small to provide guidance to a new nursing mom. Rather it makes you feel guilty, helpless and like a failure. I was a successful nursing mom for 14 months despite this book. For the birth of my second child, I did myself a favor and used it for a coaster for my water cup while I nursed my baby.
Do yourself a favor and get the AAP or the Excellent Housekeeping books as a replacement for.

While this book provides useful tips and encouragements for nursing moms, I establish the leader reasonably single minded on what is the right way to feed the baby and not permanently clear on what’s her personal opinion vs. what’s well adopted or proven. My advice is that this is a book worth reading, but don’t use it as the only guidance for feeding your child.
If you don’t want a child who stays in your bed for a long long time or who grows up to judge crying is the way to get attention and whatever she wants whenever she wants it, and if you’d like to bring a pleased kid into your life rather than turning yours upside down, go read additional books and get second opinions elsewhere.

This book may be helpful, but I was horrifically offended by the introduction and I would absolutely like to find a breast feeding book that doesn’t slam the choice to bottle feed your child. Yes, it is vital to tout the benefits of breast milk and encourage women to breast feed, but not at the expense of judgemental statements and misinformation.
Would it be possible to write a guide to breast feeding lacking being completely condescending and judgemental to mothers who opt to bottle feed?
There is not evidence to suggest that “artificially fed babies” (kind of a snippy tone in that axiom which I personally establish offensive) have privileged risk for SIDS. I did bottle feed my first child, but will be breastfeeding the second. I am hoping banning the in-laws from staying in our home for the first two weeks, attending some clasess and reading a bunch of books will help the next bout be succesfful.
But, I find it truly offensive that the leader suggests that my child was stroked less, held less, talked to less, bonded with less, will have the IQ of roadkill when he grows up, and then continues to informs me that I just propped up a bottle and let him feed himself. Color my feathers ruffled!
I am going to continue on my quest for a breastfeeding book that simply provides some guidance, levelheaded advice, tips, etc. WITHOUT slamming the evil bottle feeding mothers of the world.
But, I simply don’t reflect this book exists…

This leader is the most irritating, judgemental person I have ever read! Establish this book at the dollar tree which was more than it was worth, finished up throwing it away. Some of the dumbest people I’ve ever met have been breast fed, but according to this leader that isn’t possible, its only bottle fed babies that have problems. Buy yourself a real book with real advice.
