This book is as hilarious as it is useful! You will laugh at loud in relief that you are not the only woman learning unwanted facial hair on the highways of America! Seriously though, if you find yourself sometimes scratching your head over how to deal with life’s complications; from the mundane to the truly impactful, this book is a goldmine of practical as well as well mannered tips. Though the take in and the writer’s presentation make it fun, there really is a whole world full of advice that you’ll find yourself using again and again in both the personal and professional realms. Gaffe at the office? Modern Girl can help. Cell phone etiquette have you baffled? Modern Girl’s rules place you at ease that you can get your business done lacking offending persons in your company. The socially and physically klutzy (ok, me!) have a new guru.

This is a fun well written reference book with concise answers to point embarrassing, regularly silent screaming scenarios facing females (and by extrapolation of relational implication males) in modern society. The topics run the gamut of nine sticky chapters (like; weddings; home; family tree; parties, beauty fashion, and shopping; work; and on the go) and one dedicated section to the Icky. The topics include a vast range. For instance, Jane Buckingham provides fleeting treatise on giving a toast in public when public language requires adult diapers to social internet commentary on your date mate to secret physical issues that range the gamut to having kids at home, etc. Whether it is the “Sticky” or the “Icky” Ms. Buckingham provides simple to follow and apply advice on how to survive and regularly thrive during a social tsunami that might feel yucky and sticky.

To be perfectly honest, I usually despise most advice books– to me they usually come across as preachy or obviously superficial. This book is different. It is edgy and fun. Buckingham is a name you feel like you want to be friends with– in fact, i feel like a collection of my girlfriends wrote it under a pseudonym.
I regularly wish that I could have a personal rewind button to intermission and erase what I just said or did and start again. Until then, this book is extremely helpful!

This book made me laugh. in fact, it made me laugh so hard out loud that my spouse kept looking over at me from the additional end of the couch rolling his eyes. There are so many truths in this book whether you’re a single woman in her 20’s or married woman in her 40’s, there’s permanently something you can tell to on every page you turn. I highly recommend this entertaining and even pithy book…Girlfriends Guide is a perfect summer read and an even better girlfriends gift…

This book is like having a portable best girlfriend/huge sister on call to walk you through life’s small (and sometimes huge) messes. Jane Buckingham helps you save face and find grace in the least graceful of situations. And she dispenses advice with the warm humor and common sense of somebody who’s lived to tell the tale and won’t judge you for sticking your foot in a small too deep.
