In Laurell K. Hamilton’s New York Times bestselling novels, Vampire Hunter and zombie animator Anita Blake is an practiced at sniffing out the terrible from the excellent. But she’s about to learn that nothing is ever as it seems-especially in matters of the not-so-human heart…
Dating a werewolf with self-esteem issues is stressing Anita out. Especially when something-or a name-starts taking out the city’s shapeshifters.Amazon.com Review
The zombie-raising business gets slow in December, so Anita Blake is starting to see some oddball cases. She’s got a neatly typed list of eight missing lycanthropes agreed to her by Marcus, the leader of the local werewolf pack, who wants her to find them. The distress is, Anita’s occasionally furry boyfriend Richard is locked in a power struggle with Marcus. Jean-Claude, master vampire of the city and Anita’s additional like interest, is getting jealous as well. To top it off, Anita has to solve some horrific murders and keep her gift-hunting friend Edward from killing Richard and Jean-Claude. Hamilton alternates between amusing and fearsome in this larky series about a monster hunter with a few dark secrets.

Marcus had potential as a arch-enemy but he was agreed such fleeting shrift here that when he’s subsequently killed it doesn’t hold the impact one might expect. Again the huge whoopdedoo is Anita being raped. Which keeps as a recurring theme throughout all of the books. It tends to wear thin after awhile.
As with my additional thoughts on the Anita Blake series some are better than others but only marginally. I keep hope alive for this series, for this character but each book is a hit or far miss.

Anita Blake is a certain favourite of mine. But Anita! You really disappointed me in this one. The tale and the storyline was, as usual, fantastic. Anita has to deal with some horrible murders with a distict supernatural touch, and from the beginning it becomes clear, that this book is not so much about vampires as it is about shapeshifters. There is something incorrect about these murders, apart from the supernatural aura about them. A name or something is on the loose, and pretty soon, Anita is too close to the trail for comfort. And on the same time, she is having major second thoughts about her boyfriend Richard. In the last book, she establish out that he was a shapeshifter, and in this book, she is trying to deal with that fact. Another reviewer has written about Richard and the difficulties for the reader long-suffering him as Anita’s boyfriend. I agree. I find Richard disgusting, no matter how gorgeous he is supposed to be when not being a werewolf. This is why I can ‘only’ rate this Anita Blake book with 3 stars. But, apart from this, Lunatic Cafe is a light, amusing, scary and excellent read.

So I needed a Vamp fix after Black Dagger Brotherhood (best series I have read so far action, drama, passion, romance …the works). So I chose to check out Anita Blake, it was not what I expected there has been no romance, or steamy scenes of any kind so far Im on book 3….but I AM NOT disappointed the action and drama is quick paced. I like a cycnical kick @$$ chick. I bought the first 11 and intend to read them all. It’s a fantastic series, very gory, stark, and abit scary I LUV it;)Hard to stop reading once you start! I just wish she would get with Jean-Claude already… besides Richard is too excellent for her:)

Laurell K Hamilton has done it again! I first ongoing with the end of the series Blue Moon, I got so into it that I went back and ongoing at the beginning with Guilty Pleasures. Once I ongoing there I couldn’t stop! I can’t wait until the next juicy book after ‘Obsidian Butterfly’!
