The leader strung toether 3 contemporary myths making an adult horror tale. The 3 myths are: global warming; peak oil; and 9/11.
To know why global warming isn’t real read the scientific appendix to Michael Crichton M.D.’s “State of Dread”.
To know why peak oil isn’t real read “The Deep Hot Biosphere” and question yourself how much $ oil companies have made by touting the spectre of peak oil.
To know how 9/11 was a domestic intelligence operation and not islamic terrorism look at “[...]” on the internet (or dozens of additional sites). Are you any safer now that we have a Homeland Security State or just more powerless?
As in Watergate the question to question is Qui Bono- who profits?

This book is just full of alarmist nonsense. Don’t bother with this book unless you delight in feeling despondent and depressed. Kunstler is “the worrywart’s worrywart”. It also contains a lot of negative views towards both Christians and Southern White men who delight in NASCAR.
There are much better books about oil and our future out there.

This book was a real eye opener and a bit hard to digest but well worth it!

….I really don’t reflect going back to Mayberry
is gonna cut it….even if it does for a while, what if we get smacked by some giant meteor shower (I marvel if anyone tried to warn the dinosaurs?). The only possible solution for the long term survival of the human species is to colonize space. THIS is where the emphasis should be! Vegetable gardens are fine but its like putting your head in the sand and hoping everything will go away. And what about the millions who don’t have a garden?….do you reflect they will just go away and place you alone??……doubt it.
So NOW they are preparation a stable moonstation for starters…this should have developed right after the 1969 walk on the surface. Perhaps Kunstlers book will incite some urgency and buy us more time, I just wish the urgency was equally impelled for the space program….PS.I don’t expect many (any?) helpful reviews with this review….it seems that the survivalist ilk doesn’t really like
the real solution imo.

This book is very appealing and pertainent in the context of recent world events. Mr. Kunstler’s comments about the society’s reliance on cheap oil is very appealing. The overall thought isn’t knew but his comments about our institutions reliance on oil is very eye opening. He points out how things like the growth of huge churchs is dependent on cheap oil. He also shows how fragile the manner of language system of oil is to terrorist or political interruption. The recent growth in fuel costs will hurt the country many ways proving his theory. But Mr. Kunstler’s opinions seep through the facts he quotes. He jumps to the worst outcome lacking properly evaluating additional things that might slow the fall to chaos. For example he does take in alternative fuels. Mr. Kunstler argues all alternatives will not work for various reasons. Most of his various reasons are based off of luxury demands from ancient circumstances like environmentalism. The recent crunch of fuel has waken EPA to “relax” environmentalism rules on fuel in an effort to meet immediate needs. Such actions will be frequent if the fuel situation gets worse. Mr. Kunstler says society will lapse back 100 years to the tiny farm town or hippie community. His frequent references to that essential end seemed to indicate that is his wish. All of us will be friends, sit in a circle, sing hymns and all will be fantastic.
