Osama bin Laden is dead.
Saddam Hussein is buried.
Baghdad lies in ruins.
Now the eyes of the world are on Jerusalem as Jon Bennett – a Wall Street strategist turned senior White House advisor – his gorgeous CIA partner Erin McCoy, and the U.S. Secretary of State arrive in the Middle East to meet with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
On the table: a dramatic and potentially historic Arab-Israeli peace plot, of which Bennett is the chief architect. At the heart of the proposed treaty is the discovery of black gold deep bottom the Mediterranean – a vast and spectacular tract of oil and natural gas that could offer unprecedented riches for every Muslim, Christian, and Jew in Israel and Palestine.
But in the shadows lie men whose hearts are filled with evil – men who do not relish a post-Saddam era, men for whom the prospect of a Palestinian peace accord with Israel goes against everything for which their fathers have fought and died. Such men – and the countries that finance them – are ready to do anything necessary to slaughter persons who stand in their way. The clock is ticking. Can Bennett, McCoy, and the American president make peace before the Middle East once again erupts in war?

I couldn’t end this book; I quit about half way through it. The book is not a past novel, but rather a future (when he wrote it) that didn’t take place. As such, I just couldn’t get “into it”. I establish that it was just a tedious series of imaginary biographies.
I doubt that most people reading this book know the bio’s of many of our political leaders in the same detail as the copious characters in this book. Who has the time to waste on this fictional nonsense? If I want to read political biographies, I’ll read non-fiction. It was just unadorned dull and uninteresting to me.

This is a VERY poorly written book. If you look closely at the blurbs from his right wing friends, you can see they were all for his last book. This guy is basically a hack leader who has a successful book because his followers Limbaugh and Hannity reccommended the book and their slavish autonomon listeners bought it. It’s sad. Innaccurate. Poorly structured. Action…bio…action…bio…same action…long dull bio…its really weird…I really can’t judge this guy is published. It’s sad. He lays down the mideast peace process in bullet form like he thinks the leaders will read this book and hopefully copy his thoughts. I mean come on…a republican wet dream…I have the solution! Make every Palistinian and Jew a millionaire…the premise is so laughable…Sure, shut down every terrorist bank account and funding but at the same time give persons very same people millions of dollars a year…Oh wait, I forgot…they killed “every” terrorist so its ok now…this book is embarrasing trash

joel’s rather bizarre beliefs do not get in the way of the tale, though he does falter when he quits the action and gets down to saving the world. otherwise it is an appealing tale to read and a lesson on how far people will spin themselves when they really start to take their religion that seriously. what nearly turned me off at first were the people he has writing blurbs for the book; a drug addict now under felony indictment, two convicted felons, a reporter whose thoughts are so skewed that real reporters make fun of him publicly and on air, and a rich guy who thought that just by having inherited all his father’s money that he could be president, till he got laughed off the stage. this is not a crowd one would want to be seen with in public

IF HE CONTINUES TO WRITE LIKE THIS, THEN THIS WILL BE HIS LAST BOOK. I KNOW HE IS A GOOD GUY BUT THE STORY IS NOT GRIPPING, THE LANGUAGE IS POOR, THE CHARACTERS BLAND. NO REAL EXCITEMENT.I DID NOT THINK ANYONE COULD BE WORSE THAN THE LAST 2 CLANCYS BUT HE HAS DONE IT. SAYING HE IS THE NEXT CLANCY IS LIKE SAYING THE NEW QUEEN MARYY 2 IS THE NEW TITANIC.

Somewhere a name has written a worst ripoff of Tom Clancy but I hope I never read that book either. This book was so filled with over used cliches (“the news spread like wildfire”), dumb stereotypes, cardboard characters and standard gun battle sequences as to be laugh out loud amusing. The only problem is that it’s not a comedy! Are we really supposed to judge that while the hero and crew are being attacked by machine gun wielding terroists he has time to look at the gorgeous CIA agent and remember their past, or that she would really look at him and marvel at how strong and in control he is? Give me a break! Don’t reflect I’m just terrible mouthing the book because I’m a left leaning liberal. I’m more conservative than the leader and frankly, am embarassed that he tries to make the case for Republican politics. How did this guy get published? Last Days is written like a terrible B-grade action movie. There’s probably a threat in there somewhere – if it is made into a film it will only inflict its drivel on millions more. Let’s hope the Last Days is this leader’s last book.
