I read the excellent reviews and bought this, and to be honest I don’t like it at all. Way too rough and “out there” art that I didn’t consider art at all. Not eye candy for me. But, maybe others like it and will feel inspired. I am returning it.

I am an artist, but do not journal using my art. I find that when i I combine the two, they both lose. But, I really loved this book and thought it was a lot of fun, had fantastic thoughts.

The style of this book has a strong graphic element that I really like. This is not the way I naturally work so it has been a bit of a stretch for me and I’m seeing fundamentals of it creeping into my own art journaling. I say, yeah! and thank you for expanding my visual vocab.
These two guys gave me some fantastic thoughts for using watercolors and watersoluble media that are inspiring me. I like their examples for using text, stencils and tracing. I’m enjoying their prompt section very much. There is not a single gorgeous vintage-looking girl in sight; as a replacement for reflect: sharpies and lettering and stencils. Sharpies and lettering were not a “go-to” for me and it’s exciting to work with these new fundamentals.
I like opening this book randomly for an bit of inspiration. I reflect the visuals here are very appealing to teens, twenty-somethings and guys. And let’s face it: most of what is out there in the art journaling world has been largely aimed at women so this is very refreshing.
One of the things I look for in craft and art books is the aesthetic. I’ve been around for a while so it’s hard to spring new techniques on me. But fantastic new ways to present the techniques is something that draws me in for a second (and more) look. I’m excited when I see something different.

This book is gorgeous and so helpful! I like it and have shared it with so many of my friends. Each of us has establish something new and inspiring in it. It teaches techniques for application in your visual journal or any art, lacking being cookie cutter! So many books seem to show you how to make something that will look just like the pictures when you are done. This book is the spark for your own creativity!
I bought this book after having been to a workshop with Eric and Dave, the authors. It is incredible! The workshop showed me many of the techniques in the book, but the setting was overwhelming and I missed many details. Having this book is a God send! I am able to go back and look up techniques I missed, or ones I hadn’t seen before and apply it to my visual journal.
I keep it near my work space and refer to it regularly! Thanks guys for such a fantastic book!

Even though it’s called “Journal” Junkies, this book isn’t about the diary type of journaling. It’s more about getting inspired to place something down on paper in your artist sketchbook every day than it is about adding visual interest to the pages of your written journal. But it has some really fantastic thoughts for various artsy techniques, and I’m enjoying effective my way through, trying out all of them.
