Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, “The Hunger Games.” The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat’s sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place.

This book has a special place in my reading life: By page two I so deeply disliked the protagonist that I place it down. It wasn’t the cruelty (I like the ILIAD) but the narrator was just a name I did not want to listen to anymore.

I am absolutely in shock. I was recommended this book and was told it was flying off the shelves at our upper grade school book honest. The students and parents were all grabbing them and asking for book 2. So I ongoing it and I am shocked and so completely disturbed. How could anyone on this planet delight in reading about teenagers killing each additional? My gosh, some of the kids are 12 for goodness sake!! After so many attacks at highschools by teens, doesn’t this seem disturbing and innappropriate to anyone? What kind of a sick person writes this stuff and promotes it to young adults? What is incorrect with this society? What sick people find this entertaining??? If I could I would give this book and all the others a negative 10! And please parents, DO NOT let your teens read this garbage. Not when there are so many additional excellent choices!

Wow, really amazed.
This is such a ripoff its nearly amusing.
Attention: This is not a new concept. Its been around in America for 6 years. Ever hear of Battle Royale? If no, then I know. This is so terrible, its nearly amusing. Except it isn’t. Its a warped and twisted mix of 1984, Battle Royale, and The Running Man. Stay away.

Seriously?? People, Suzanne Collins is stealing thoughts from different books and movies and piecing them together, making “something completely new.” Come on. When I read this book, the only thing I could reflect was, “Hmm, where have I seen THIS before? OH YEAH, “Battle Royale” by Koushun Takami, “The Long Walk” by Steven King, “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding, the movie The Condemned, et cetera.” This is plagiarism at its worst, I mean this book has been written a thousand times, and she didn’t even try to change any circumstances.
…And now she is being recognizable as inspirational, bringing a “completely new concept” of kids killing kids?? IT’S BEEN DONE! It disgusts me that no one has sued her for this second-rate version of incredible literature. Also, if she’s going to completely steal their tale lines, she could at least do it well; Her writing is terrible.
Not only that, but she’s using a textbook example of a dystopian society. Like, there’s not a thing that makes this society new or different. It’s all so cliche! Can’t she reflect of a single new concept? I mean, putting things in the blender isn’t a skill.
Well, that pretty much ends my rant. Please, if you’re going to buy something, buy an original! Try Battle Royale, that’s a personal favorite of mine, but whatever you do, don’t buy this unoriginal cra p.
Congratulations, Suzanne! You’ve just proven that idiots lacking brains in their heads can be successful too!

This book had my attention and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. But, I was very disappointed. When I clogged the book for the last time I was amazed at what a terrible example the main character is for young adults. She lies, she does what ever her superiors question her to do including get naked for men and women alike, she’ll kill additional teens, she’ll profess her like and kiss a name she doesn’t really like all just so she can make it in the game. She has no morals, integrity, or values. All she wants to do is live through the games and will stop at next to nothing to do this. Where is the heroism in this? I felt the leader was trying to teach young adults particularly girls that when it comes to succeeding in this life everything is honest game (using their bodies, sham romantic relationships, deceit, and popularity). These are not the kind of things I want my children doing to gain worldly success. I was disgusted with the book and hope none of my children ever read it.
