This book isnt for you if violence makes you queasy. I thought it was unbelievable what Yun went through, and it was an appealing book. I learned much about the history of Christianity, which I new nothing about before. But, I felt the book was very repetitive, as I cannot count how many times Yun went to prison, was electrocuted with a baton, beaten senselessly, etc. I certainly judge in miracles, but everytime I turned the page there was another one…….so many that it nearly seemed unbelievable and I wondered if this tale was really right.

I read many fantastic reviews and see a few that say he is a con man. But none of the ones stating that he’s fake really say why and specifically what he does or has done to be such a con.
I just ongoing the book and so far nothing in my heart has felt doubt about what I’ve read.
I selected it up while I was visiting the Philippines.

While this book was inspiring in many ways, it is also shot through with theological error. The lack of critical review of this book by the Christian Booksellers Convention (who named it Book of the Year), and persons who have posted glowing reviews here demonstrate just how undiscerning the Christian church can be.
This is not to say it’s a really terrible book: It has many strong points. But despite the many powerful things God is doing in China, I’m deeply concerned that new believers will fall away from the faith when they fail to be discipled with sound doctrine, and then subsequently notice that the incredible events described in this book are NOT happening to them or anyone they know personally.
The Chinese church (indeed the entire body of Christ) needs to be all ears on God and His Word, not charismatic experiences and subjective visions, few of which can be independently confirmed. Yun claims to have this in mind, but his tale puts so much emphasis on his experiences that it is hard to judge he takes his own exhortation seriously.
As just one example of the many theological problems with this book, on page 173 unbelievers are told that “if you receive Jesus, he WILL heal you.” The reference in this particular scene was to a PHYSICAL healing. Sorry, but that is NOWHERE in the Bible, and NO PERSON has the power to make such a promise on God’s behalf! Yes, God will heal mentally, but He regularly chooses NOT to heal PHYSICALLY. For a Christian to make such a promise to an unbeliever is really inappropriate, and potentially damaging to the faith of a new believer.
Sorry to be a wet blanket, but somebody needs to place things in their proper perspective.
Stay right to the Word!
In His Name!
