Although I’m not ever going to be a vegetarian, I find lots of useful recipes in lacto-vegetarian cookbooks. A co-worker and I shared this library book today and I establish so many useful thoughts and taste combos I’m ordering it for my personal library! The addition of a 1/4 cup of shredded poultry breast meat to most main-dish recipes will make many of these recipes useful for me. Omit the salt and replace the soy-based ingredients with dairy and I’m excellent to go. That’s simple! Most folks with health concerns are used to these kinds of simple replacements. Negatives: No effort is made to avoid anti-thyroid foods (soy and tapioca flour), but most gluten-free cookbooks snub that health risk. Although the leader explores sugar alternatives, including agave nectar, she omits stevia, which is a serious omission.

I would like for a name to come out with a gluten free lacto-vegetarian book with KID FRIENDLY recipes, this is not it.
The problem I have is that we might use 5 of the recipes in the book on a regular basis, and I am permanently looking for new things to add to our dull diet.
I do appreciate that it is gluten free VEGAN, meaning all additional dairy (which we can’t have) and animal products are not in the recipes so I don’t have to modify, which I have to do all the time.
Overall it just wasn’t all I hoped it would be!

This lacto-vegetarian and gluten free cookbook is straightforward, uncluttered and pretty informative about eating gluten free and lacto-vegetarian. The recipes are reasonably simple to accomplish, and the listed resources are reasonably helpful. I will use this cookbook as a base upon which to erect some meals, in that I am augmenting her ingredients with spices and herbs, as any excellent cook will do.

I’m a talented cook, just looking for a few new thoughts, and I bought this cookbook on a whim. I’m not celiac, but have some friends who are, I am lacto-vegetarian, and have never had problems finding excellent stuff to eat. At any rate, the authors range of ingredients and spices is limited, her dishes very western (even the Asian dishes end up tasting off if you make them following her recipes). I got a couple thoughts, but with the dozen recipes I followed I was permanently dissapointed. In addition she includes too many recipes that either everyone knows how to make or can be establish very easily in additional places, in a speciality cookbook like this she should have stuck to dishes that would be more challenging to figure out how to do for her gluten-free lacto-vegetarian audience.

The Carrot Cake Rocks!! Better than the real thing.
The Quinoa Coffee Cake tasted exactly like real cake (I added Chocolate Chips) and my kids both couldn’t get enough!
The Gingerbread w/ chocolate chips was very ‘gingery’ but excellent.
The buckwheat pancakes were also excellent but next time I am going to use them as cookie batter. A small too gingery for kids.
Raspberry tofu pudding was awesome (don’t tell them it’s tofu).
My 8 year ancient son has a Food Intolerance to Dairy, Eggs and Wheat. I’ve read Gluten-Free but they use a lot of dairy and eggs, then I’ve bought Lacto-vegetarian but they use a lot of wheat. So this is PERFECT!
I bought it mainly for the cake & biscuit recipes and I am not disapointed.
