Amazon Best of the Month, July 2009: The girl with the dragon tattoo is back. Stieg Larsson’s seething heroine, Lisbeth Salander, once again finds herself paired with journalist Mikael Blomkvist on the trail of a sinister criminal enterprise. Only this time, Lisbeth must return to the darkness of her own past (more specifically, an event coldly known as “All the Evil”) if she is to stay one step yet to be–and alive. The Girl Who Played with Fire is a break-out-in-a-cold-sweat thriller that crackles with stunning twists and dismisses any talk of a sophomore slump. Fans of Larsson’s prior work will find even more to like here, and readers who do not find their hearts racing within the first five pages may want to confirm they still have a pulse. Expect healthy doses of murder, treachery, and deceit, as well as enough espresso drinks to fuel downtown Seattle for months. –Dave Callanan

I haven’t even read this book and I won’t because the predecessor – “The Girl…Tattoo” – was truly junk. The leader is obviously really devoid of stylistic talent and the plot/scenes creak and quiver like a sophmore cliche. Barring a right miracle, the leader has not improved after his huge ’success’. My warning: if you have any level of literary taste at all, don’t make my mistake – save your money and time and skip this leader!

All five of us sisters read this and none of us liked it. Some despised it worse than others, but I’ll only speak for myself. There has been some mentiion of the sex. I can only say I’ve read more erotic sex scenes for certain, but this may have been one of the few things I loved about the book. This book is too long. It has too much, very too much unnecessary detail. And, worst of all, the “super hero, super girl” was really kind of ridiculous. Was this supposed to be a fantasy, a fairy tail? It certainly lost touch with reality. Linda Carter did the super girl thing better, but then I knew she was a comic book character. Nope, none of us like it. All five say “one star.”

After plodding through lots of Swedish names and places, I finally gave up and deleted this book from my Kindle. I really didn’t care about any of the characters or what happened to them. I really tried to get into this book, but I felt I was reading a book by the Swedish Chef from the Muppet Show.
