Product Description
Not only long-suffering but also celebrating getting ancient, this inspirational and illuminating work looks at the many facets of the aging process, from purposes and challenges to struggles and surprises. Central throughout is a call to cherish the blessing of aging as a natural part of life that is active, productive, and deeply rewarding. Perhaps the most vital dimension revealed lies in the awareness that there is a purpose to aging and intention built into every stage of life. Chittister reflects on many key issues, including the temptation towards isolation, the need to stay involved, the importance of health and well-being, what happens when ancient relationships end or shift, the dread of tomorrow, and the mystery of forever. Readers are encouraged to surmount their fears of getting older and find beauty in aging well.

Chittister is more interested in her liberal politics and her renunciations of Catholicism than anything of Christianity. She disguises herself as a valid voice when she is not.
I see my review is excoriated as not worthwhile (therefore I amend my previous review). Such is the predictable of the anti-Catholic crowd of which Sister Chittister is a prominent tower of might. Chittister has dedicated her religious life to undermining the faith she is supposed to profess. She simply rejects anything of traditional Catholicism for the prominent advancement of her far left wing politics. Potential readers should be aware that not only is Chittister not in the mainstream of Catholic thought, she is really on a separate planet that has nothing to do with Catholicism.

I have read many of Joan Chittister’s writings and establish them both appealing and inspiring.
This book is formulaic and not either appealing or inspiring. And it is a theme worthy of attention. It seems as though she churned it out to keep the community alive.
I am a geriatric nurse who prays so the theme is one I know about, in addition, I am 72, so it is a theme close to my heart.
Sorry, Joan.

A wonderful and engaging book that is full of wisdom and reflection on the “art of aging” well. It is a must read for persons headed into that time of life as well as persons who are there already. One of my favorite reflections dealt with the exegis of “emotionally neutral” thoughts and memories! Fantastic stuff! This is one of the best books I have read this year.

Getting this book was a gift the most wonderful present! I read in it regularly even though I have fininshed it, and I buy a new one every time I give my copy to a friend! If every person over sixty reads this book, our world will be a better place! It’s a practical, do-able, spiritual plot for celebrating life. I even add it to my travel bags and tote it wherever I may go.
