“This is one hugely entertaining book. I loved every page. And I will never let Neil Strauss within fifty feet of my wife.” –A. J. Jacobs, Esquire
Hidden somewhere, in nearly every major city in the world, is an underground seduction lair. And in these lairs, men trade the most devastatingly effective techniques ever invented to charm women. This is not fiction. These men really exist. They live together in houses known as Projects. And Neil Strauss, the bestselling leader, spent two years living among them, using the pseudonym Style to protect his real-life identity. The result is one of the most explosive, witty, and controversial books of the year–guaranteed to change the lives of men and transform the way women know the opposite sex forever.
On his journey from AFC (average frustrated chump) to PUA (pick-up artist) to PUG (pick-up guru), Strauss not only shares scores of original seduction techniques but also has memorable encounters with the likes of Tom Cruise, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Heidi Fleiss, and Courtney Like. And then things really start to get weird – and passions lead to betrayals lead to violence. The Game is the tale of one man’s transformation from frog to prince to prisoner in the most unforgettable book of the year.Amazon.com Review
Are you just another AFC (“average frustrated chump”) trying to meet an HB (“hot babe”)? How would you like to “full-close” with a Penthouse Pet of the Year? The answers, my friend, are in Neil Strauss’s entertaining book The Game. Strauss was a self-described chick repellant–perfect with large, bumpy nose, tiny, beady eyes, glasses, balding head, and, worst of all, painful shyness around women. He felt like “half a man.” That is, until a book editor questioned him to investigate the community of pickup artists. Strauss’s life was transformed. He spent two years bedding some fine chiquitas and studying with some of the North America’s most suave gents–including the best of them all, the God of the pickup “community,” a man named Mystery.
Mystery is an aspiring Toronto magician who charges $2,250 for a weekend pickup workshop. He is not much to look at: a cross between a vampire and a computer geek. But by using high-powered marketing techniques he’s turned seduction into an effortless craft–even inventing his own vocabulary. His technique sounds like a car salesman’s tip sheet: his main rule is FMAC–find, meet, attract, close. He employs the “three-second rule”–permanently approach a woman within three seconds of first seeing her in order to avoid getting shy. Additional tricks: Intrigue a gorgeous woman by pretending to be unaffected by her charm; also, never hit on a woman straight away. Start with a disarming, innocent remark, like “Do you reflect magic spells work?” or “Oh my god, did you see persons two girls fighting outside?” And finally, the most vital characteristic of the pickup artist–smile.
After two years, Strauss ends up apt nearly as successful as Mystery, but he comes to an vital realization. His techniques were really off-putting to the woman he finished up falling in like with. And they never prepared him for really having a relationship. After a while, he ran out of one-liners and had to have a real conversation. Still, The Game is a fantastic read that may help some AFCs come out of their shells. –Alex Roslin

Ok fellas let me break it down for ya’s. If you try the stuff in this book you arn’t doing yourself any favours. If I heard a name come up to me trying this stuff I’ll probably laugh my self to death.
And if there are any additional girls out there thinking about getting this book I’ll just warn you that it is embarassingly hard to read at times. You really do feel for the fellas out there who are willing to try anything. While this book isn’t supposed to be described this way, if your a woman it reads like a tradgedy, of how men are willing to try anything – even if its a load of hoobely doobely.

The discovery of this book in our home just forced a discussion with our teenage sons, one of whom bought the book and demanded it’s return or compensation for the buy fee. We opted to reimburse him and chat about the book’s relative merits.
I acknowledge the challenge that unattached men experience when pursuing women. The problem with this book is the goal. It is NOT, by the authors own admission, the pursuit of a long term relationship. Nor is it, by my deduction, the pursuit of a virtuous relationship. It attempts to lure susceptible men into thinking that even written pornography is worthy of praise.
Bottom line, this book passes pornography for humor and it cheapens the sacred union of a man and woman.

I’ve never read the Game, nor do I ever plot on it. From the reviews and from what my friends tell me I get the basic picture. Neil Strauss is a talented writer and pick up artist. As are the people he describes in this book. I know, because I’ve met and I’ve seen them work. You do, but, lose your goals in life, and your life becomes a huge empty quest to get in bed with as many trashy girls as possible. It is nearly impossible to talk to most of the guys in the community about anything additional than pickup techniques. Kind of sad. The techniques described stem from insecurity, based on the assumption that a man isn’t excellent enough to sleep with a woman, and therefore needs a bunch of “lines”.
Read this book, but take everything it says with a grain of salt. Strauss himself tells you that his life became kind of empty after a while. For men who reflect that this is the answer to all their problems, question yourself, is this the type of person I want to become? (Metrosexual, fake, social robot… hundreds of negative adjectives here) For women who read this book, undrstand where these men are coming from. Yes, the pick up artists are all geeks. That’s how the community evolved. Secure men don’t surf the web to find out ways to hide their insecurities just to meet women. Sorry, guys, this once again is not your magic pill.
P.S. I’m convinced that a lot of these guys are closet homosexuals who seek validation from men, not women. What a shocker…

This tale seems to have been made-up — the facts of the tale lead you to the edge of why people do things but don’t reasonably clarify them. The women seem irrantional. I got the feeling that the women that he was alternative-up were not as attractive as he claims. I reflect he was finding lonely, simple-minded women who were made-up to be attractive. And then he prayed on their loneliness. He also keeps trying to prove his own “studliness” to the reader, as if he is still insecure.
Toward the end, he lives in a house full of losers, drives a corvette and takes a limo to the beach to surf, building me marvel if he is not psychotically self-centered or stuck in the go-go 90s. He probably listens to Motley Cru, has a gold pinky ring, and watches Beverly Hills 90210 re-runs. The Game will work better in Hollywood than any additional place because — Hollywood is full of girls who want to be fooled.
I also became suspicious when he ongoing talking about “hot” Serbian and Eastern European Women. They are NOT hot. Try this with a natural, powerful Scandinavian girl and it won’t work.
He also puts down rock stars — because he thinks they do nothing to attract women — they have no “game”. Well, lameass, its called songwriting — poetry and art. Writing composition draws upon emotion and is very hard. None of the simple sentences in this book approach art.

The take in is degrading to woman and the book is worse. As a mom, I am very concerned and am absolutely amazed and disgusted. I am telling everyone I can about this and they are looking at it and are just as disgusted. How can something like this even get published? Bring shame on on Amazon. I will no longer shop on your site. What is the world coming to.
