The Game On! Diet is not a diet. It’s a bold new approach to fitness that turns the latest, smartest, most successful health science into a fun, fierce, and exhilarating game. Developed by Az Ferguson, to help Grey’s Anatomy writer Krista Vernoff shed forty pounds of postpregnancy weight, it is the ideal program for busy people who should be effective out but have a thousand excellent excuses not to.
Az keeps you motivated and Krista keeps you laughing as they show you how to organize opposing teams, set goals, and compete to earn points for daily exercise, healthy meal plans, and positive lifestyle changes. With The Game On! Diet, the process of losing weight, for the first time ever, is really fun. After all, what’s better than a swimming suit body . . . and immodest rights?
Get out there and lose . . . to win! Game on!

Very amusing. Very quick and simple read. The diet/game itself is a blast. We have four teams playing right now–a combination of men and women–some who only have a small to lose, and some who have a lot to lose. All of us have lost weight, and our families our benefiting from the overall in excellent health eating. The competitive scenery of the diet and the fun “trash talk” of our teammates & opposing teams makes it enjoyable to be dieting. We’ve dubbed it “competitive dieting”.
I have tried every type of diet out there–from low stout, to low carb, to no sugar, to weight watchers. This is by far the simplest diet to follow. The fact that you are required to incorporate additional healthy habits, like getting sufficient sleep, water, exercise, eliminating a terrible habit and incorporating a new, positive habit really helps with the overall lifestyle change that many additional diets fail to take up.
The first few days is tough; it will seem like you’re cooking and eating all the time. If you have a soda pop/Rock Star/Monster addiction you will go through caffeine and/or sugar withdrawal. If you work out of the home, you will have to be prepared with your meals each morning, since you need to eat every two to four hours, five times a day. Towards the end of the first week, you’ll have it pretty down pat, though. Since this diet allows one full meal off plus one full day off that you are required to take, you don’t feel deprived. If you’re craving Chinese food, for example, you just plot to have it on your day off.
I have recommended this book to everyone I know. I highly recommend it to anyone that is interested in building lasting lifestyle changes, even if you have no weight to lose, but want to get healthy and renovate healthy habits. Your whole family tree will get on board with the competition, and everyone will benefit.

I too have played this game many times and am grateful to have been a part of the process of developing this game from the beginning. It is SO much fun to play and doesn’t make you feel like you’re dieting at all. Cause, as Krista says, diets suck. So if you want to lose weight, get healthy or just have some goals you want to achieve around health and fitness, this is the best way to do it I’ve come across in YEARS.
That’s the game. Now the book:
You all know Krista can write. If you watch Grey’s Anatomy you already know this. But this is KRISTA’S voice (not Meredith’s), with Az’s voice sprinkled throughout. I got my copy 2 weeks ago and read 150 pages on the first day. I have a 4 year ancient. I don’t do that. I laughed out loud on nearly every page. This is one of the most fun and informative reads out there.
Just get it. Just play.

I’ve played this game a couple of times with different groups and it’s a riot. You don’t feel like you are depriving yourself like a diet because your focus is on kicking your opponents butts. The meal off and day off per week make eating right/exercising really doable. I LOVE the added part about giving up a terrible habit and gaining a excellent. These things I’ve never been able to do on my own, but just knowing I’d lose points for my team kept me in check. Teams of 3 or 4 are perfect. Play it with your co-workers! This book/game makes losing weight not so serious. It’s FUN.

This book was incredible and it really worked! It taught you how to eat better and that you still can have your favorite foods – just not as much!!

Right, So I’ve permanently yoyo’d with weight and have distress getting past the 2-3 week mark. I get so down when i don’t see results, as that’s what I’m usually focussing on.
I read this book and got my friends to start a game with me. And wowzers. It was awesome. my team came second (out of 4 teams) but i lost 16 pounds and am really quick now and have biceps!
We are all broke so the winners got their cars washed, and let me tell you, they went through mud or something the day of the huge wash.
Anyway, we really took the communication stuff to another level, trash talk like you haven’t seen or heard before. hahha
Cheers Game on Diet writers, and I look forwards to doing the game again. (taking a week of then back on the horse)
