Books like this just continue to piss me off. You cannot be a part time veggie. Either you are or you arent. Real veggies do it because we like animals and the environment and because we are disgusted by meat.
The only real healthy and entlightened people are vegans and you cannot dispute that.

I recently bought this book hoping to incorporate a more vegetarian way of eating, lacking giving up the occassional steak, or heat chicken. The book’s title and concept seemed like the answer for me, but I have to say, keep your money in your wallet, or just buy Bittman’s Vegetarian Cookbook. I am a excellent cook, and delight in my time in the kitchen, so I have experience in putting meals on the table. So I was a bit offended when the leader chose that I needed a full page recipe for Peanut Butter Filled Celery! Yes, it seems that most of the book was written for a name who has never seen the inside of a paring knife. I wanted to be educated, but I plot to return this book and find one that respects my intelligence.

I will tell that I am lacto-vegetarian and that I am looking for books that I can have at the ready to recommend to anyone asking me how to eat in a more vegetarian way. I, myself, am pretty intense in my beliefs against using animals and products made from them in my life, but I realize that not everyone who turns to me for advice is ready for this level of commitment (though it’s not as hard as you may reflect!). I selected up this book in pursuit of being able to offer something on the path to veganism lacking scaring people off; but, I was still puzzled by the philosophy espoused in the book.
The leader refers to herself as a meat-eating vegetarian; that is an oxymoron that I don’t find to be clever marketing. Vegetarians, by definition, do not eat the flesh of animals. If you eat animals, you are not vegetarian. That the leader didn’t want to decline vital meat-eating life events was also troublesome because she plainly admits that the vegetarian way of life is in excellent health. Politics aside, she would rather place her health on the back-burner and eat meat so as to not cause ripples at certain events. I’m not adage that she has to set out to turn everyone into a vegetarian or a lacto-vegetarian on Prayer, but she gives up her principles of healthy eating in order to conform. To me, that doesn’t sound like a excellent eating philosophy.
Going further into the book, but, I did find that her information on food was a excellent introduction for a name who may not be familiar with veggie white meats (tofu and tempeh) and the vast array of vegetables available besides persons establish in a garden or Cesar salad, or Chinese stir-fry. Though some of the recipes mention a meat swap, they don’t focus on meat as the main ingredient. I wholeheartedly embrace this as a name could make the recipe as stated and place out the meat entirely. A few of the recipes are simplistic in scenery (jicama with hummus; pistachios), but, what I appreciate is that I never would have thought of some of the flavor combinations she presents. Additionally, since the book contains a perfect five-week meal plot, keeping it simple is key and therefore the basic recipes are necessary.
Though this book is not lacto-vegetarian, I would still recommend it for the diet information (not the philosophy behind it, just skip to the recipes) for a name who isn’t politically motivated by veganism or vegetarianism, but wants to adopt some of persons principles for a in excellent health lifestyle. I would want people to do something, which this book offers, rather than nothing if they couldn’t do everything. It’s not an “all-or-nothing” proposition to become in excellent health. Do something because every small thing counts. Less meat consumption, but it is achieved, is a positive in my book.

This book is so user friendly. Although I do delight in meat on occasion, I’ve been tending away from meat and more towards veggy proteins. My hurdle has been just not reasonably knowing how to adapt recipes so that I could get the protein levels where I need them by using only veggy proteins. This book makes it sooo simple and non threatening, taking baby steps as desired. I like this book. This is my new food bible. The recipes are so simple to place together and very tasty. Packed full of fantastic tips, tricks, and helpful trades and resources. And I am impressed with the reference section in the back of the book. The leader is well informed and has done her homework!
