I bought this book because I was teaching myself honest isle knitting, and I had many questions about effective with color. This book is fantastic when it comes to effective with color. So many techniques and stitches. I can’t wait to try some of the methods in this book on some of my projects.
You will not be disappointed in this book… just gorgeous!

To tell the truth, I am not a book learner when it comes to knitting, but this book is so well done that there is no confusion at all! The picture quality is high and the leader goes straight to the point explaining techniques, and she does it so clear that I am impressed how simple most things are (I tried some of these techniques before with another very legendary book with no excellent results).
Another reviewer complained about a low production quality. My experience was very different from hers, to me, this book has a excellent quality in printing, color, binding and content. Is an overall eye candy.
A few words of advise: this is a techniques book, don’t expect a pattern book, although, the leader included a few patterns to illustrate some techniques discussed on the chapters. You don’t have to like her patterns but the steps described on how to achieve a particular colorwork are so clear that you won’t need a pattern. This book is inspirational. Once you are done with a chapter you will just feel like crafty something immediately!
Also, I don’t consider this a beginners book. But, she goes to the extent of explaining some stitches and terms in the appendixes at the end of the book, and some explanations are in fact, very useful.
The first chapter is devoted to very basic color theory, not comprehensive but really well selected content. Then the second chapter is about stripes (wondered how to get rid of that annoying line that interferes with your nice stripes in a ribbing pattern (the lines of the previous color in the purl side)… well, here is the answer! How to make reversible fabric, get rid of the jog in circular knitting… just persons simple solutions are worth the book buy. But the more you go further into the book, the more advanced the techniques are (I recommend to use the “look inside” feature of the book.
A few days ago I ongoing to knit an entrelac pillow. I am so pleased with this book that I can’t recommend it more.

I wasn’t preparation on buying another knitting book that day I was in the bookstore, but after a few minutes of leafing through this book, buying it was a done deal. There are so many clever techniques in this book; such a wealth of information (I consider myself an intermediate knitter). It clarifies a lot about some of the mysteries of knitting such as entrelac (sounds like a brand of antacid!) intarsia, double knitting, twined knitting, mosaic knitting, plus many many fun patterns and textures. The list goes on and on! For years I had wondered if intarsia could be done in the round, thinking it was impossible. Well turns out there is a technique…and it’s in this book. I was able to apply many of these techniques immediately to my knitting designs, taking it to a new creative level. I like this book. You can’t go incorrect buying it.

I heartily agree with all the five star reviews. What separates this book from the pack is the generous, generous and painstaking attention Ms. Radcliffe gives to every aspect of this topic.
Just when you reflect that the book cannot be any more exhaustive or appealing, you start another chapter with EVEN MORE fantastic insights. For example, not only are many many styles of handdyed multicolor yarns discussed, but TERRIFIC instructions for stranded knitting and intarsia are also covered, and I mean covered generously! In all cases better than fantastic references such as The Knitter’s Handbook.
I, like many knitters, have been seduced by the plethora of multicolor knitting yarns. This book shows how to maximize their beauty and will save hours by steering you towards techniques that will work well with the yarn.
Photos of techniques and stitches are perfectly sized and appropriate.
I hope this book will become the new standard for knitting books in the future.

The Essential Guide to Color Knitting Techniques lives up to its name. It contains a wealth of information about how to add color to your knitting. I immediately started building swatches in the color patterns demonstrated throughout the book, experimenting with techniques, and choosing patterns to make down the road. In fact, I have already finished my first honest-isle project with a fantastic deal of help from this book! If you are new to knitting with multiple colors — or if you just want to increase your versatility — I highly recommend this book.
