A devil’s bargain
Easily the shyest Wallflower, Evangeline Jenner stands to become the wealthiest, once her inheritance comes due. Because she must first escape the clutches of her unscrupulous relatives, Evie has approached the rake Viscount St. Vincent with a most outrageous proposition: marriage!
Sebastian’s reputation is so treacherous that thirty seconds alone with him will ruin any maiden’s excellent name. Still, this bewitching chit appeared, unchaperoned, on his doorstep to offer her hand. Certainly an aristocrat with a fine eye for beauty could do far worse.
But Evie’s proposal comes with a condition: no lovemaking after their wedding night. She will never become just another of the dashing libertine’s callously discarded broken hearts — which means Sebastian will simply have to work harder at his seductions…or perhaps surrender his own heart for the very first time in the name of right like.

I normally devour Lisa Kleyas’ books, and this one was not any different. But, I establish this book to fall fleeting of her earlier works. After reading the first two books in her four book collection, I keenly awaited the 3rd addition to her collection. Sorry to say, I was disappointed. Her two subplots collided with each additional leaving the reader confused. Although both plots were excellent, they each detracted from the additional. First Evie’s family tree procedure to kidnap her and next her long lost half-brother, driven mad by some sexual transmitted disease, tries to kill her. I feel as if Kleypas was trying to convey two different themes but they both fell fleeting of what was expected. I also establish that she kept her characters away from the social scene, something she doesn’t normally do. It leaves a void because the reader cannot tell the view of them in societal sense. Her two additional books connect fervently with the social theme but, this one breaks out but not in a excellent sense. I like Lisa Kleyas’ books but Devil in Winter was one that detracted from her career and the rest of her series.

Was it just me or am I the only one who establish it dull? I am more than half way through and am trying to force myself to end. It’s not as fun, and light-hearted as the first two in her series. I loved the first two, and I loved the strong and fun heroines. I establish Evie to be so morose, unemotional, unexciting, and a drag. I don’t see what St. Vincent sees in her at all. If I were him, I’d go after a name else. The book seems so serious. I don’t want to read about her abuse in a romance novel. It’s depressing. The only amusing part was when they were getting married at Gretna Green. That was cute. But additional than that… I did skip a bit to the end and I reflect it picks up a small there. I hope so. So far, I don’t like it very much, and I usually like Lisa Kleypas’ work, especially her two Wallflower books. They were fun reads.

I have reasonably a few of Kleypas’s books but after reading the last two I am apt less of a fan. The first “Wallflower” series books was certainly the best of the bunch. My main gripe with the book is that there is no sexual tension, no teasing buildup to the huge like scene. Evie and Sebastian elope and do the deed within the first 4 chapters.
Additionally, the backstory is a re-tread of the gambling house from Dreaming of You – a much better book.
Worth a read only if you are a Kleypas fan and you get it from the library.
