Well I was in the mood for a cheesey romance novel, what I got was a cheesey and dull romance novel that was nothing but text on a page; I couldn’t picture any of it in my head at all. I wasn’t expecting fantastic plot, but a plot would of been nice to have at all. I had to place this book down and stop reading it since it wasn’t catching my interests a bit.

My sister has this series and let me borrow them. I got hooked so I have this one on pre-order and can’t wait to get it.

Well, Mrs Showalter, I got tired of the group of men fallen from the heights of Mt. Olympus reasonably quickly. Occasionally you use the incorrect word in a description, such as when one of the damned men was having his guts pierced repeatedly with the swords of his compatriots, AGAIN, he yelled??? Yelled??? NO, more like he screamed in agony. The occasional use of a word that seems just unadorned incorrect is one of the things that place me off of this series and just…just I’m not reasonably sure what made me not want to read the torment and redemption of each of them one by one but I was just not that interested and that surprised me because I like that kind of pattern for the plot. It is not poorly written but there is something missing for me from this series of books (I have read 3 so far) and have no intention of reading anymore, sorry. Probably just me because I can not place my finger on what is incorrect and why exactly I don’t take to your books and your heros. Maybe I will try again at another point in time because they should have caught and entranced me and I am disappointed that they didn’t.
OH Yes, another thing, your female counterparts for each man just don’t work for me either. It has been awhile since I read the last book that I bought but I don’t reflect that the women match up with the main heros at all.

In all fairness, I have not read the first four installments of the “Lords of the Underworld” series, so I didnt have alot of history to go on concerning the characters, the world they were in, and what they have gone through in persons four books. So I am reviewing this as a stand alone book. From what I gather, like many fantasy/romance books, each book is dedicated to a different character. This book is about Sabin, and his demon Doubt. The Lords of the Underworld (terrible terrible name) opened Pandoras Box and let out its demons, and each now have the small buggers to contend with when fighting battles with the “hunters” and bedding women. Thier goal is to find the box again and return their demons to it. Each “Lord” and one lone Lordette, have a….giant butterfly tattoo somewhere on their body. The Tattoo is in a different place for each of them, just in case a name gets confused as to who they are with. BUT the butterfly isnt feminine, right, because it has “blades” on the edges. I had a hard time getting past that small tidbit, Men with giant butterfly tattoos arent sexy in any way shape or form.
Unlike additional series that are similar (bunch o’immortal men in one house, fighting evil, and they just take place to have recently ongoing finding the likes of their lives) Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 1), this book has way to many characters to deal with. Not only do we have all the Lords, but we have their demons, and their women, and the hunters, and the additional fantastical creatures, and the people who also live there, and so on, and so on and so on. Sabin, who of course has NO LUCK with women, in fact his previous girlfriend killed herself because of his demon, or perhaps she didnt like his tattoo, finds poor Timid Gwen in a hunters prison, and is INSTANTLY attracted to her. Gwen is a harpy, who cannot control her inner monster and seems to rip apart additional people when she gets cranky. BUT she doesnt rip apart Sabin and his leatherclad following, so that must mean something right? AND she is gorgeous, the most sensual, gorgeous, sultry, woman Sabin has ever seen, we get to hear ALOT about her strawberry blonde hair and skin.
Gwendolyn has a rough time because the rules for a harpy are hard, they cant eat unless they steal the food or earn it. So if they are hungry they better have excellent shoplifting skills or hope a name needs their store swept. Sabin and her quickly hook up via lots of tentative and showers and kissing for air (I didnt get that either) but its not erotic, its pretty much the most un-erotic erotic novel i have ever read. Isnt sex with a Lord of the Underworld supposed to be otherwordly and mindblowing? I have read better porn in Judy Blume novels Summer Sisters.
The plot goes something like this, Sabin is hot for Gwen, Gwen isnt a excellent harpy like her sisters, his demon really likes her, and he teaches her how to be a better harpy through dull sex and fighting. The End. Oh, and the search for the box is still underway and there was something about her father being connected to the Lords somehow, and the additional Lords tales get a bit more information. Thats about it.
I wont be reading the first four, nor the ones after this. I like my fantasy/erotica/romance to have some excellent fantasy/erotica/ and romance in it.

This is the first book I have read of the series so I’m probably missing a excellent deal of the background plot and erect up but I should have still been able to delight in the character’s own tale even lacking the background information.
The main characters of the book are Sabin and Gwen. Sabin is a warrior who has been cursed with the demon of Doubt and Gwen is a harpy who is full of doubts but she is able to tell when the demon Doubt is language to her which is something Sabin’s previous lovers could not do. Because of this Sabin did not want to be involved in another relationship which would just end tragically even though he finds himself attracted to Gwen from the beginning.
The tale was ok but lacked a lot of romance in my opinion. I really find I am more interested in the supporting character tales than Sabin’s and Gwens so I might really pick up another book down the road to give them a shot.
