I had heard brilliant reviews of Joe Friel’s work and of this book specifically and overall I am disapointed with it. While Dr. Friel does offer excellent information there certainly were not any fantastic new revelations establish in the book. While I did pick up a few excellent pointers there was nothing that would completely change my training programe.

I haven’t read the whole book yet thus 4 out of 5 stars.
Right from the beginning you can see that the book was written scientifically by a person who knows what is he talking about.
You have to be aware that the book is written for the veteran cyclists or a very committed beginner.
A vary excellent book and a training tool/guide/planner. I recommend it!

As a “spinning” instructor amd avid cyclist, I am alwyas seeking books and information on the theme, both for personal use as well as motivational and directional for my classes. The contents in this book provided both. The workout schedule has been a bit tough to grasp, although I did manage to use it as a base start. At times it focuses on the hard core racer, which isn’t automatically all terrible – as it could inspire others to seek such a level. Fantastic book to grab and reread bits and pieces.
