This volume, authorized by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s estate, contains all 4 full-part novels and all 56 fleeting tales featuring Sherlock Holmes. At over a thousand pages, the weighty tome is a perfect gift for budding amateur sleuths, and it is an ideal companion for a long stay on a desert island (or a leisurely trip through the English countryside). As the reader wades past the tense introductions of A Study in Scarlet and moves towards such classic tales as The Hound of the Baskervilles, “The Adventure of the Speckled Band,” and “The Final Problem,” she is sure to draw her own conclusions about Holmes’s veiled past and his odd relationship with his “Boswell,” Watson. Doyle never revealed much about Holmes’s early life, but the joy of reading the perfect Holmes is assembling the trivia of each tale into something like a portrait of the detective and his creator. By the end of the long journey through London and across Europe (with a long pause at Reichenbach Falls), one is apt to have establish a friend for life. –Patrick O’Kelley

This is a very cheaply designed volume of paste and cardboard, most of the really excellent editions of “Sherlock Holmes” have gone out of print. Publishers today produce disposable junk, especially when there aren’t many readers in the U.S.A. the most illiterate country in the western world. The Amazon reviewer is a liar which comes naturally from a corporation known for graft, he also manages to compact political correctness while dismissing these classic books as trivial at the same time.

Sherlock Holmes is such a excellent book. Watson is the narrator. He meets Holmes in a hotel. Holmes uses logic to make theories. Holmes and Watson solve mysteries. And Holmes is permanently right. And Holmes is permanently observant and he sees every detail of the scene. All of the scenes are in London; Holmes is a very smart man. I am reading the first collection and all I know is there are tow or more book collections. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is the leader of this book. You should read this book. It is a very excellent book. Be observant.
