Product Description
There was a time when no one knew about the Discworld, a huge disc supported by five elephants standing on the enormous giant turtle known as the Fantastic A’tuin …Rincewind was a perfectly ordinary failed wizard until he met Twoflower, the Discworld’s very first tourist, and before he reasonably knew what had happened, he establish himself employed, at an outrageous salary, as Twoflower’s guide to this weird world. They ongoing off in the Disc’s oldest capital: proud Ankh and pestilent Morpork, the twin city known as Ankh-Morpork. Before too long the irrepressible Twoflower and Rincewind, who is both inept and cowardly, are forced to flee from the city. They meet up with an increasingly colourful cast of characters as they find themselves spending too much of their time being shot at, terrorised, chased, hanging from high places with no hope of salvation, or plunging from high places (likewise, with no hope of salvation) …THE COLOUR OF MAGIC continues in THE LIGHT FANTASTIC, where an event is happening way overhead, far above the elephants and A’Tuin, where the very fabric of time and space is about to be place through the wringer.Amazon.com Review
The Colour of Magic is Terry Pratchett’s maiden voyage through the bizarre land of Discworld. His entertaining and witty series has grown to more than 20 books, and this is where it all starts–with the tourist Twoflower and his hapless wizard guide, Rincewind (“All wizards get like that … it’s the quicksilver fumes. Rots their brains. Mushrooms, too.”). Pratchett spoofs fantasy clichés–and everything else he can reflect of–while marshalling a profusion of characters through a madcap adventure. The Colour of Magic is followed by The Light Fantastic. –Blaise Selby

Certainly must be a children’s book. Written by a child for a child with absolutely no life experience. I read many books of many genres and this book is completely and utterly dull…Maybe he puts together some fancy small one liners and a couple of odd pairing of words. This is certainly not a timeless novel. Not a book I would recommend wasting your time on. Sadly my boyfriend recommended this book to me and I am reasonably disappointed at his lack of taste and style. My imagination needs a bit more colors than this. Anyone who can rave about this book has absolutely no clue about art or right writing. It is rigidly dull and a pretentious piece of writing. I don’t see how anyone can waste there time on this book…It is really very pathetic and disturbing.

Pratchett’s Discworld is supposedly so humorous he has written 26 novels thus far, but the only thing truly amusing about The Colour of Magic is how anyone has loved it. The tale has absolutely no direction and comes across as a blatant attempt at beside the point humor of a Monty Python kind, succeeding touchingly. One of the worst books I’ve ever read.

I have read some very elaborate fantasy/sci fi books in my life, but this one escaped me. I fell asleep more than once in the first 2 chapters and finally gave up. Maybe i should give it another chance, but it has now been at my bedside for a month and I havent had the desire to try again.

Being a fantastic fan of Douglas Adams I hoped that this book would be something along persons lines. Even though the humor is there (although not as sophisticated as Adams’s), the book was a pain to read. It may be due to the fact that i am not a native english speaker, but i suspect it has more to do with the style of writing.
The best way to clarify the style is to say it is like listening to a half-drunk friend at a party trying to tell you a truly amusing and appealing adventure he/she had been through.
